Want to work in a supportive role in a home setting for adults with developmental disabilities?
As a Residential Care Worker, you'll be a member of a tight-knit team who work together to
support a small group of individuals. Our individuals are supported 24hr/day in their home
and community. Our goal is to support an individual’s choices and independence with a
shared commitment of respect, rights, and dignity.
**The Residential Care Worker:
- works under the direction of the Residential Supervisor to provide a comfortable
home environment where individuals with developmental disabilities thrive in their
home and community
- works as part of a team to ensure that individuals are supported to live their best life
surrounded by people who contribute to their personal goals and values.
- listens and acts on what an individual communicates
- assists individuals with typical daily living tasks in addition to supporting friendships,
community inclusion and new opportunities for growth.
- assists individuals with personal care, housekeeping, appointments, volunteer, and
paid employment opportunities.
- assists when required with mobility supports and hand-on-hand support at home and
in the community.
**Qualifications:
- Care Aide Certificate or equivalent education certificate. Example: related
human/social service field
- One (1) year recent related experience.
- Or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Valid First Aid Certificate.
- Valid Food Safe certificate.
- Valid class 5 BC driver’s licence - please note that casual workers do not require this.
- Class 4 driver’s licence an asset.
- Proof of full vaccination against Covid-19 required.
**Job Skills and Abilities**:
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work as part of a team with a diverse group of staff, professionals, family
and members of the community.
- Commitment and interest in the field of service to individuals with a developmental
disability with preference given to direct experience working in the field of
Community Living.
- Ability to adapt to a changing schedule and needs of those we support.
**Requirements**:
1. Criminal Record Search.
2. Signed Confidentiality form.
3. Approved reference check.
4. Driver’s Abstract.
5. Vehicle required.
6. Proof of full vaccination against Covid-19 required.
**Benefits and Perks:

and represented by BCGEU - British Columbia General Employees’ Union.
**Healthcare**:Once they have passed their probationary period, we offer an extended
health program through Group Health to all staff working more than 20 hours a week. The
plan covers MSP premiums, dental, vision, prescription medication, select alternative
therapies, life insurance, and long-term disability. We also have an Employee and Family
Assistance program. The premiums of the plan are 100% employer-paid.***
**Vacation & Leave**:3 weeks holiday. Employees accumulate 6% vacation pay on all hours
worked in the first and second year of employment. After the first two years of employment,
they earn one additional day of vacation per year of service, to a maximum of 35
workdays.
**Retirement Pension**:A full-time employee will be enrolled in the Municipal Pension Plan with
a matching contribution by SSCS after 6 months of employment.***

**Compensation**:As per the BCGEU Collective Agreement, the wage is** $21.63 per hour.
