**Child and Youth Worker Position**

Ascot Avenue Community Day Care provides early learning and care programs and services for children from infancy to school age in two sites: Regal Road Jr. Public School and Oakwood
Collegiate Institute. Infants, toddlers, and preschoolers are located at the Oakwood site and kindergarten and school-age children are located at the Regal Road site.

**POSITION**:
Short-term Child and Youth Worker. 5 hour/day split shift position on regular school days, and 7 hours on 1 non-school day. This is a short-term contract position **beginning immediately and ending June 30, 2023.**

**QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED**:

- A certificate in human/ social services or a related discipline or an acceptable combination of education and experience.
- A minimum of two-year experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities and/or physical/medical/behavioral support needs or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Up to date immunization record as per new Ministry requirements.
- Criminal Record Check for Children and Vulnerable Adults (Local and Provincial)
- Clearance dated within 6 months of start date.
- Current and valid Standard First Aid / CPR-C certification(infant/child/adult).
- Fully vaccinated against Coronavirus disease (Covid 19). Proof of vaccination (e.g., Dose administration receipt issued by Ministry of Health) is required.

**JOB SUMMARY**:
Assists children and youth develop life skills, social skills and/or access to community resources.
Provides individual care and guidance in a large group care setting to children with mental health issues, behavioural challenges, or addictions. Provides stabilization through predictable structures, clear expectations, and positive behaviour support. Incumbents must have the ability to work within a multidisciplinary team context, and be able to demonstrate skills in basic counselling, crisis intervention, conflict resolution and problem solving, as well as written and verbal communication skills.

**KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Participates in assessment, goal setting and program planning such as Individualized

Support Plans for child supported.
- Provides input into the evaluation of the program.
- Reviews and evaluates individuals’ progress and adjusts programs as required.
- Ability to work with families in complex situations and from a variety of cultures, and differing family values and beliefs.
- Provides feedback and support to individuals and/or their families.
- Provide support with daily life skills, social skills and /or behaviour management.
- Facilitates physical, recreational, educational, and social activities.
- Recognizes, analizes and deals with potential emergency situations such as individuals’ aggressive behaviour to minimize potential harm to the person and/or others.
- Provides written and/or verbal reports regarding individuals’ daily activities and progress.
- Is familiar with Ascot Daycare’s policies and, procedures.
- Knowledge of relevant requirements and legislation as per the City of Toronto's
- Knowledge of the Assessment for Quality Improvement (AQI) and Ministry of Education's licensing legislation (CCEYA, 2014) and HDLH approaches, as well at Toronto Public Health requirements and standards an asset.
- Works well independently and in a team setting, requiring mínimal supervision. Able to take initiative in daily duties and delegated tasks.

**Compensation: Compensation commensurate with experience.**
