The Department of Division Monitoring has an exciting opportunity for an Applied Research Assistant to join their team This role works as part of a team and provides assurance information and data for the Division. The incumbent performs literature searches, conducts inquiries, and creates information as needed by the director to respond to user queries and reporting needs.

This role is also responsible for the preparation of data for analysis including the implementation of collection procedures, sampling methodologies, as well as ensuring the integrity of the data. The incumbent is also responsible for updating current and longitudinal data reports.

**Job Responsibilities Include**:

- Conduct and report information searches of literature, statistics, databases
- Assemble results for use in reports, projects, and presentations
- Update reports consisting of current and longitudinal data
- Draft documents in response to queries or reporting needs
- Draft data collection instruments based on research reviews, e.g., surveys, tests, engagement sessions
- Implement data collection procedures used in the provision of assurance information and student performance
- Distribute approved instruments and materials based-on sampling methodology
- Monitor the receipt of responses, e.g., surveys, tests, engagement sessions
- Organize responses by respondent group and prepare for analysis
- Ensure the accuracy and integrity of data used in Division, school and student-level reports
- Ensure accuracy of Division and school-level dashboards
- Conduct data validation by locating and eliminating errors in databases
- Verify digital data through cross-referencing with original data sources including individual student data
- Scan completed data collection instruments into digital system
- Validate databases for standardized tests administered to students and surveys/engagements conducted by the unit
- Create and maintain valid databases and reports
- Participate in meetings and activities
- Contribute to short-term and long-term strategic planning activities
- Assist staff during peak workloads and provide cover-off during absences
- Participate and collaborate on projects and initiatives
- Review best practices and make recommendations to enhance work efficiency and accuracy
- Contribute to the development of new policies and procedures
- Complete projects managed by the unit
- Maintain and upgrade required knowledge through a range of professional development activities including workshops and self-study
- Identify staff professional development needs and recommend needs to the director for approval
- Develop and deliver approved professional development sessions to Division staff
- Provide guidance and advice to Division staff in area of expertise

**Job Qualifications Include**:
**Degree, or diploma in an area related to Business, Sciences, Arts, Education, or equivalent, with coursework in computing and statistics, plus two years of directly related experience.**
- Knowledge of statistical analysis; both quantitative and qualitative research methodology preferred
- Knowledge of digital student records systems (PASI and PowerSchool)
- Knowledge of the Student Record Regulation and Alberta Education Act
- Knowledge of information governance, records management, and the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy (FOIP) Act
- Knowledge of digital student records systems, reporting databases, and Microsoft programs
- Knowledge of presentation development and delivery techniques and principles
- Knowledge of project management principles
- Knowledge of workplace safety and awareness of Occupational Health and Safety regulations
- Knowledge of Division procedures and understanding of the educational system
- General knowledge of the Division and department operations, goals, and objectives
- Strong organizational and time management skills and the ability to balance competing priorities in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines
- Strong evaluation, analysis, and research skills
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Strong technical writing skills and the ability to convey complex information so that it is understood by a broad range of stakeholders
- Ability to respond accurately, timely, and completely to questions and inquiries maintaining strict confidentiality as required by legisla
