Indigenous Peoples Education Interpreter_**

In your role as an Indigenous Peoples Interpreter, you will:

- Lead pre-registered educational programs for schools, groups, day camps, birthday parties and courses with a focus on Indigenous (First Nations, Métis, and Inuit) histories and cultures as it relates to Edmonton within the Indigenous Peoples Experience and the four historical eras: 1846 Fort & Cree Encampment, 1885 Street & Métis Camp, 1905 Street, or 1920 Street
- Lead activities for special events at facilities
- Lead, organize, instruct and supervise structured and/or curricular programs
- Share history and knowledge of the Cree, Metis and Other Indigenous cultures
- Assist in program research and development
- Assist in the delivery of public interpretation services
- Assist in the maintenance of artifacts and program supplies
- Work evenings and weekends and conduct other related duties as required

**Qualifications**:

- Completion of GED, High School Diploma or equivalent
- Experience working with the general public and children
- Experience in traditional crafting such as: beading, weaving, wood carving, etc
- **E**xperience with storytelling such as oral, textual, personal, mythical or sacred storytelling is an asset
- Experience working on or living on a reservation is an asset
- Ability to speak the Cree, Michif, or other Indigenous languages, and/ or knowledge of Cree syllabics is an asset
- Experience working in a museum, cultural centre, or historic site is an asset
- Current Standard First Aid and CPR is required prior to commencing employment
- An original Police Information Check, including Vulnerable Sector Check issued within the past 6 months that is satisfactory to the employer will be required before starting in the position. The new hire will be required to obtain this check from Edmonton Police Service. Please note: this may take up to 3 weeks to process
