Financial Reporting Analyst

**This posting is for 1 full-time temporary position for 1 year**

The Financial Reporting Analyst is responsible for providing accounting support to the Financial Reporting branch through direct accounting support to the Senior Financial Reporting Advisor. Key responsibilities include operational journal entries, quality assurance, confirming data integrity through reconciliations, analysis, compilation of internal and public facing financial reports, filings, and communications.

**Responsibilities**:

- Provide professional financial reporting and analyses for internal and external reporting requirements
- Research, coordinate and analyze financial information to prepare professional documents including reports, presentations, proposals, and correspondence
- Prepare reports for Executive Team, Council, and the public
- Collaborate with the Senior Financial Reporting Advisor in the preparation of consolidated financial statements
- Investigate any unusual transactions relating to financial reporting
- Update and assist in the preparation of various working papers and year end schedules
- Review and prepare year end accounts analyses, reconciliations and working papers of various balance sheets and income statement accounts
- Prepare journal entries
- Assist the Financial Reporting compliance team with compliance reviews and data analytics
- Assist the Financial Reporting Advisor with the production and review of the Elected Officials’ business expense reports
- Assist with changes to processes and reports in support of continuous improvement
- Provide support to update administrative procedures, as required
- Assist in the development of financial training presentations and delivery of sessions on an ad hoc basis

**Qualifications and Skills**
- An Accounting diploma and a minimum of 3 years experience in accounting or a related area, or an Accounting degree and a minimum of 1 year experience in accounting or a related area
- Understanding of relevant provincial and municipal legislation
- Knowledge and understanding of accounting standards, specifically Public Sector Accounting Standards
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for preparation of reports, presentations, analyses, and professional documentation
- Sound critical thinking and analytical skills, including the ability to identify issues, analyze risk, and propose alternative solutions to senior staff
- Effective organizational, time management, and multi-tasking skills to prioritize and complete work within restricted timelines while ensuring attention to detail
- Capability to work in a team environment, sharing in department responsibilities and assisting in the different areas as required
- Experience working with an integrated ERP system and utilizing that system efficiently to create accurate and timely financial information Proficiency with business productivity software, computers, and financial information systems, including advanced Microsoft Excel
