Employment Readiness Counsellor

The **Employment Readiness Counsellor** will play a crucial role in supporting Inuit youth in Winnipeg to develop the necessary skills and knowledge required to secure steady and reliable employment.
This position will be responsible for providing culturally specific, wrap-around, flexible, and holistic services to address the barriers faced by Inuit youth in finding employment.
The **Employment Readiness Counsellor **will work closely with participants, offering career counselling, job coaching, advocacy, and training workshops to enhance their employability and equip them with the necessary tools for successful job search and retention.
**Duties & Responsibilities**:
- Conduct pre-intake assessments and career counselling sessions to identify participants' barriers and needs.
- Develop individualized case and career plans for participants, addressing their specific challenges and goals.
- Provide job coaching and advocacy, assisting participants in obtaining necessary identification documents, such as birth certificates, photo ID, social insurance numbers, and Manitoba Health cards.
- Collaborate with participants in identifying suitable career paths and exploring educational opportunities.
- Facilitate employability skills sessions to enhance participants' social and emotional skills, including creativity, problem-solving, collaboration, adaptability, communication, motivation, and time management.
- Deliver training workshops on various topics, such as CPR & First Aid, non-violent crisis intervention, food handlers' certification, and occupational health and safety.
- Provide guidance and support in job search techniques, including accessing online job boards and utilizing career cruising tools.
- Conduct mock interviews to prepare participants for real job interviews.
- Assist participants in obtaining required safety checks and necessary training for employment
- Coordinate with external service providers to connect participants with additional resources and support, such as rent assist programs, employment insurance information, and disability assistance programs.
- Organize transportation support, including bus tickets for program participation and the first month of employment.
- Help participants acquire suitable work clothing and necessary equipment for their desired jobs.
- Maintain accurate records of participant progress, outcomes, and program activities.
- Collaborate with other Tunngasugit staff and community service providers to ensure comprehensive support for participants' goals.
**Requirements**:
- Knowledge and understanding of the challenges faced by Inuit youth in finding employment.
- Familiarity with career assessment tools and resources.
- Strong interpersonal skill and high level of patience, with the ability to build rapport with participants from diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to provide culturally sensitive and trauma-informed support.
- Proficiency in computer skills, including resume writing and job search techniques.
- Knowledge of local resources and services for employment and education support.
- Must be punctual and show up for work daily.
- Effective networking and agency relations skills.
- Ability to balance work requirements, including consultation with other professionals and service providers as required.
- Demonstrated ability to problem-solve complex situations and manage sensitive issues.
- Demonstrated ability to function as a team member; working collaboratively across sectors; as an active participant in multi-disciplinary teams.
**Qualifications**:
- A degree or diploma in a related field, such as social work, career counselling, or human resources.
- Previous experience in employment counselling, career coaching, or related roles.
- Fluency in English is required, and knowledge of Inuktitut or other Indigenous languages is an asset.
- Class 5 driver’s license.
- Must be able to work effectively independently and as a member of teams.
- Must be able to work flexible hours, some evenings and weekends.
- Must provide a current criminal record check and adult and child abuse registry checks.
- Strong oral and written communication, attention to detail, organizational skills and exceptional planning and implementation abilities.
- Strong computer skills and excellent knowledge of MS Office programs.
- Current resident of Winnipeg, MB or surrounding area.
- Must possess a strong understanding of Inuit culture and traditions.
- Have current First Aid and CPR Certification.
- Clear adult abuse registry, child abuse registry and criminal record checks
