The Summer Day Camp Team Leader will provide leadership and interactive support in the daily activities of our summer day camp program ensuring that children are constantly and consistently supervised, supported, and included in games and other activities.

The incumbent will work within a team to ensure that children are safe and cared for in accordance with The Salvation Army's mission, values, and standards.

Applicants must be 15-30 years.

**Hours**:

- Full time Temporary
- Up to 16 weeks, through the end of August.
- 40 hours per week
- 8:30 am to 4:30 pm

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Coordinates the planning, implementation, and delivery of a weekly summer day camp program targeted at children ages 6 - 11.
- Manages the camp budget, including making purchases and tracking expenses.
- Ensures a detailed lesson plan is completed for each day of the camp.
- Effectively supervises Camp Leaders, volunteers, and participants, ensuring a positive, safe environment for all.
- Coordinates the daily set-up, usage, and cleanup of equipment, supplies, and facilities.
- Responds promptly to all inquiries and communicate effectively with all Camp Leaders, volunteers, participants, management, and the public in a positive and professional manner.
- Promotes participation in camp activities such as games, music, sports, arts, crafts, stories, and field trips.
- Responsible for following all safety protocols as part of the facility safety plan.
- Enforces facility rules and regulations consistently.
- Administers first aid where required.
- Maintains camp records (eg Participant sign-in and sign-out forms, first aid reports, and lesson plans).
- Mediates any conflicts that may arise between camp participants.
- Attends staff training sessions and courses as required.
- Assist with advertising and promotion of the camp program.
- Interacts broadly with community partners and neighbourhood families.
- Assist with leadership training opportunities for youth volunteers.
- Completes additional tasks as assigned by the Corps Officer.

**QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS**:
**Experience**:

- Prior experience planning programs and supervising children is required.
- Experience with Sunday, Youth Group, or Summer Camp is an preferred.
- Involvement with sports, music, art, crafts, or other interests is an asset.
- Knowledge and experience working with youth with complex needs and behaviors is an asset.
- Experience in leadership roll is an asset.

**Education/Certifications**:

- Completion of High School.
- Additional post-secondary studies in related field is an asset.
- Current Standard First Aid/CPR, or willingness to attain.
- Must provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required. The screening is secured either through the National Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) or through a local police detachment
- Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.
- A driver’s license with clean abstract is strongly preferred.

**PREFERRED SKILLS/CAPABILITIES**:

- Excellent time management skills including the ability to effectively handle competing priorities and emerging demands.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with children, families, and co-workers.
- Ability to treat the information in a confidential manner.
- Ability to work independently with mínimal supervision.
- Comfortable praying with staff and campers as the need arises.
