Calgary, Canada Alberta Health Services Full time

Your Opportunity:
Alberta Health Services (AHS) has an exciting medical leadership opportunity for a physician with expertise in Public Health and Preventive Medicine to join our team as a Zone Medical Officer of Health (ZMOH). You will play a crucial role in preventing and addressing public health threats, advancing health equity, and working with partners to support people and their communities to be as healthy as possible. With legislated accountabilities under the Public Health Act, MOHs are responsible for investigating and controlling communicable diseases, preparing for and responding to emergencies and disasters, and addressing environmental health threats. As a ZMOH, you will play a pivotal role in protecting and promoting the health of Albertans in a geographic area of the province. ZMOHs provide leadership and support to Zone and Provincial public health teams in identifying local health needs and addressing current and emerging public health challenges. As a clinical expert, you will lead responses to individual and population-level health issues, champion prevention approaches within an integrated health system, and serve as a medical consultant to physicians, other healthcare providers, and a host of other stakeholders including local communities, school authorities, and many others. ZMOHs are members of the Clinical Department of Public Health and Preventive Medicine, ultimately accountable to the Senior MOH. In this capacity you will work with other Zone and Provincial MOHs to advance department priorities and collaborate with the Indigenous Wellness Core to help close the gap in Indigenous health outcomes. This role offers excellent flexibility including FTE ranging from 0.5 to 1.0 and start date, allowing you to work remotely anywhere in Alberta while collaborating within a highly skilled, cohesive team along with unique career growth and advancement opportunities.
