Job Title: Program and Volunteer

Coordinator/Addictions (PVC)

Reports to: Executive Director

**Purpose**:
Under the supervision and direction of the Executive Director of The Elizabeth Fry Society of Manitoba and in accordance with EFSM’s mission, goals and standard practices, this position is responsible for the development and management of EFSM programming, EFSM Volunteer program, supervision of student interns and volunteers.

**Program Development and Delivery**:

- Program development with the use of indigenous cultural tools and teachings
- Design and advertise new programs based on needs
- Update existing programs
- Facilitate workshops and deliver EFSM programming based on required deliverables
- Collect data and write reports for our board, funders, and management - including statistics for programs delivered
- Facilitate referrals to appropriate services and resources as required
- Works collaboratively with service providers in various programs and services to ensure effective continuity of service for clients
- Provide progress report for programs

**Volunteer Coordination**:

- Recruit, manage, and mentor a team of dedicated volunteers and Intern students
- Conduct social work student reviews twice per year as per student program requirements
- Act as a liaison between post-secondary institutions and build relationships to recruit volunteer and intern students

**Addictions Counselling**:

- Provide case management, including individual and group counselling, ongoing treatment planning, support services, resource coordination and collaboration for adult women whose primary concerns are addictions, mental health and co-occurring disorders
- Conduct intakes and manage referrals from various organizations
- Conduct one-on-one counselling sessions
- Stay well informed of current knowledge and trends in the addictions and mental health field, including therapeutic interventions, emerging drug trends and new tools and resources.

**Additional Responsibilities**:

- Provide crisis intervention as required
- Complete all necessary documentation, maintains current and accurate confidential records of the client files.
- Participate in appropriate committees and working groups as required
- Assist in the drop-in center as required
- Collect data and write monthly reports for all departments
- Provide court supports and advocacy for clients
- Connect with probation officers

**Interaction with the Public**:

- Maintain a professional working relationship with all clients, setting proper worker-client boundaries
- Must have the demonstrated ability to interact respectfully with a diverse population on a variety of sensitive topics

**Physical Demands**:

- Ability to sit for long periods of time, including (though not limited to) at a desk in an office space, in a private space for counselling, and during program facilitation
- Ability to use a screen for long periods of time
- Ability to actively listen during counselling sessions and program facilitation
- Staff may be required to lift supplies and materials from time to time

**Working Conditions and Environment**:

- Work occurs within an office setting at a desk, using computer equipment and a computer
- Regular working hours of Monday through Friday, from 8:30am to 4:00pm
- Work may occur outside of an office setting, and outside of regular working hours including evenings and weekends; ability to work flexible hours as required
- Work may have disruptions, or the environment may become busy and noisy on occasion
- Hazards may include contact with sharps, unknown substances, or cleaning agents
- There may be people or groups in crisis or stressful situations - a high degree of empathy and understanding is required

**Tools and Equipment**:

- Knowledge of the program facilitation software such as Smart Board
- Provided tools and equipment include office materials, desk, classroom space, private space for counselling
- Must have access to a reliable vehicle

**Knowledge and Skills**:

- Awareness and understanding of indigenous community needs including the impacts of historical traumas and events
- Understanding and working knowledge of the criminal justice system is desired
- Have knowledge around cultural and spiritual traditions such as sweats, grieving processes and traditional teachings
- Work within a harm reduction framework
- Be trauma informed, and demonstrates a genuine enthusiasm for client-centered care and demonstrates empathy and compassion
- Familiarity with and experience working with LGBTQ2S+ persons
- Ability to manage one’s own emotions and strong feelings; maintain a calm and tactful composure under a broad range of challenging circumstances; think clearly and stay focused under pressure
