AGENCY: Adoption Options in Winnipeg is offering a full-time permanent position for an Adoption Counsellor. Adoption Options is a not-for-profit licensed agency that provides support and education to Prospective Adoptive Parents, Birthparents and Adoptees throughout the adoption process.

JOB DESCRIPTION: The Adoption Counsellor will complete assessments on Prospective Adoptive Parents, counsel and support Birthparents, facilitate adoption placements, and help with various other office needs.

JOB TYPE: Full-time, Permanent.

SALARY: $45,000 - $50,000 per year, based on experience

QUALIFICATIONS:

- Bachelor of Social Work
- Registered with Manitoba College of Social Workers
- Two years of experience in a family services environment is an asset

SKILLS:

- Trained in completing SAFE (Structured Analysis Family Evaluation) Homestudies an asset;
- Knowledge of and experience with the Adoption Act and Child and Family Services Act an asset;
- Demonstrated skills in areas of counselling and assessment;
- Knowledge and understanding of multicultural issues and demonstrated skill working cross culturally;
- Excellent organizational, computer, oral and written communication skills with a demonstrated ability to work effectively under pressure and in a team environment;
- Effective assessment, interviewing, relationship building, problem solving & organizational skills;
- Knowledge of child development, separation & attachment issues, parenting methods & casework practices;
- Ability to work in a team environment & independently without prompting;
- Ability to learn on the go;
- Ability to prioritize and re-prioritize on an as-needed basis.

**REQUIREMENTS**:

- Successful completion of a Child Abuse Registry check, Prior Contact check and Criminal Record check;
- A valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle is a requirement of this position;
- Travel to different areas of Manitoba for home visits;
- Applicants must be legally entitled to work in Canada.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Completing Homestudy Assessments and Homestudy Updates for Prospective Adoptive Parents;
- Completing Post Placement Reports for Intercountry Adoptions;
- Providing support to Birthparents on their options, decision making, and grief counselling;
- Facilitating private adoption placements and post placement support and counselling;
- Referring and providing information to and for professional and community resources;
- Assisting in Education Seminars;
- Completing all required written documentation;
- Assisting with agency functions;
- Assist with other office responsibilities.
