The Alma Mater Society (AMS) is the University of British Columbia’s (UBC) student society, and works to improve the academic, social and personal lives of the 56,000 UBC students at its Vancouver campus. The AMS also runs nine food and beverage outlets, a catering and conference operation, and the AMS Student Nest, providing on-campus employment opportunities and generating revenue that goes directly back into supporting the students at UBC.

**Position title**: Interim President, AMS UBC

**Reports to**: Council

**Employee status**: Hourly Exempt

**Hours per week**: 37.5

Position Purpose
The Interim President of AMS UBC is responsible for leading the AMS and representing the student body.

**Responsibilities**:

- Chair or delegate the chair at all Council meetings
- Chair Executive Committee, Advisory Board and Presidents Council
- Sit as a non-voting member of all committees of the Society with the exception of any committee established to oversee the President and with the further exception of any committee to which Council appoints them as a voting member
- Prepare the agenda for each Council meeting
- Ensure that the policies and programs of Council are properly implemented
- Be the official liaison between the Society and the Managing Director and between the Society and its Constituencies
- Be responsible for the public relations of the Society
- Assist, advise, and manage the Vice-Presidents in the duties of their offices
- Manage the President’s staff
- Implement the Society’s Strategic Plan by executing the priorities and direction in the plan
- Serve as a signing officer for all Society cheques and contracts
- Works with the AMS mission statement and values
- Other duties as outlined in AMS Code and Bylaws

Qualifications and Experience
- Must be a currently registered student at UBC Vancouver or one of its affiliated colleges
- Knowledge of AMS club and constituencies issues
- Previous experience as an AMS Executive or as an Undergraduate Society President is an asset
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Strong organizational skills and detail orientated
- Comfort in working in a technical environment
- Professional conduct
- Ability to work independently, under pressure and meeting deadlines
- Knowledge of AMS fiscal procedures and policies is an asset
- Advanced knowledge of computer and technological skills
