Calgary, Canada Alberta Energy Regulator Full time

Student, Communications

The Opportunity
The Alberta Energy Regulator’s Engagement and Communication Branch provides strategic communications services and conducts stakeholder engagement activities to help the AER in its ongoing dialogue with employees, Albertans, industry, stakeholders, and the Government of Alberta.

As a Student, Communications, you will help plan, implement, and evaluate communication strategies to support initiatives that align with the AER’s vision, mandate, and corporate goals. This includes developing content for internal and external audiences and supporting special projects and events.

You are a passionate communicator with exceptional writing and critical thinking skills. You enjoy working in a fast-paced environment and are willing to roll up your sleeves to help the team. You shine at developing collaborative working relationships at all levels to provide clear, timely, and effective communications to internal and external audiences. And you’re ready to write engaging stories, assist with events, and contribute to social media content.

It’s a big task, but you won’t have to do it alone. You will work in partnership with each of these groups to develop your tactics to support the organization in achieving its business objectives.

Your Key Responsibilities:

- Research and write content for internal and external audiences, including articles, key messages, and briefing notes.
- Work with our in-house designers to develop supporting communications material, including intranet and web copy, photography, and videos.
- Work with various business areas and experts to help develop and implement communication plans and support issues management activities.
- Conduct daily media monitoring, support media requests, and support social media activities. This includes developing and evaluating content.

Qualifications:

- Second or third-year bachelor of public relations or communications student
- Exceptional writing skills with a superior attention to detail
- Ability to research and analyze
- Ability to manage conflicting priorities and meet deadlines
- Ability to work independently, supporting team efforts and timelines

Additional Requirements and Information:

- This position is a full-time summer student position which is expected to last approximately 4 months.
- Proof of enrolment in a registered institution and returning to studies following this placement will be a condition of hire.

For Internal Applicants Only
- Under the AER’s Classification Framework this position is a Summer Student.
- Please note: Should an individual with the required qualifications not be available, applicants with closely related qualifications may be considered. As a result, the position may be redesigned and/or reclassified.
- This position is eligible as a Temporary Assignment. Should the successful employee be a permanent employee, they would retain their permanent status for the term of the contract and potentially be eligible for Acting Pay as per the AER’s Compensation Policy. At the end of the assignment, the employee would either return to their current role or be reassigned to an equivalent role within the organization.

Please note, this job advertisement will close on January 25, 2023 at midnight.
