**General Accountability**:

- Reporting to the Foreperson, the Assistant Foreperson is responsible for supervising the work performed by hourly-rated employees in the Subway/SRT Track section involving the rehabilitation, maintenance, and construction of all subway and SRT track-related work as well as assisting the Foreperson in the co-ordination, planning and completion of track work. The incumbent is also responsible for supervising the work performed by external contractors.**Key Job Functions**:

- Completing daily job briefings and work plans, reviewing them in detail with hourly-rated employees to ensure all aspects and hazards associated with the work are fully understood; conducting regular safety talks with hourly-rated employees;
- Assisting the Foreperson with administrative duties such as completion of the daily journal, timekeeping, record keeping, signing stock requisitions, purchase requisitions, vacation/bereavement requests, injury investigations, etc.;
- Maintaining discipline and promoting harmony in the section;
- Ensuring that employees under their direct supervision are familiar and comply with the policies and practices of the TTC with regard to rules, regulations and safe working practices and are properly trained in all aspects of the work and in the operation of any new/modified equipment. Providing guidance, advice and on-the-job training for hourly-rated employees;
- Investigating various injuries, accidents, incidents or other problems which may arise, and initiating corrective action or making recommendations;
- Ensuring that rules and regulations in the union agreement, Commission and Departmental policies, and government legislation (human rights, labour relations, Occupational Health and Safety Act, etc.) are satisfied and applied fairly and consistently;
- Participating in TTC health and safety programs, administering first aid or CPR to employees or requesting further medical help through the Transit Control Centre if required;
- Recommending and implementing new improvements to equipment and/or methods of work;
- Supervising the work of external suppliers and contractors to ensure compliance with TTC guidelines;
- Assisting the Foreperson with the monitoring and reporting of project status and advising of problems or delays. Ensuring that work plans and schedules prepared by the Supervisor or Superintendent are maintained and all work is completed in a safe manner, in accordance with the standard practices and procedures;
- Conducting traction power cuts as required;
- Ensuring construction, maintenance and rehabilitation of the various TTC facilities meet established engineering, safety and cleanliness standards.
- Directs, supervises and provides on-the-job training of hourly-rated employees in the performance of track rehabilitation, maintenance and construction duties
- For purposes of training, emergency or transient duties, may be required to operate various track maintenance equipment;
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

**Education and Experience**:

- Completion of Grade 12 (Technical program) in a related discipline or a combination of education, training and experience deemed to be equivalent.
- A Community College Diploma in the field of Civil/Structural Engineering would be an asset.
- Supervisory experience in the transit/railroad area and/or related field would be an asset.

**Additional Requirements**:

- Requires knowledge of track and road inspection, construction, maintenance and repair standards, procedures and practices.
- Must have or acquire working knowledge of relevant government legislation including the Occupational Health & Safety Act (Industrial and Construction) and other relevant regulations applicable to the work.
