**PRIMARY FUNCTION**

Reporting to the Quality Manager for Clinical Laboratories at KHSC, the Quality Coordinator is a member of the KHSC Clinical Laboratories and Molecular Diagnostic Medicine team.
- Responsible for the maintenance of the Laboratory Quality Management System.
- Will act as a trainer, coach, and quality resource to the greater laboratory team.
- Demonstrate leadership in providing quality service to clients while operating within accreditation and regulatory standards and guidelines while supporting the mission, vision, and values of KHSC.
- Adheres to the ethical obligations of the Profession, to the Public and to the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO).

**RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES INCLUDE**:
**Administration and Communication**:

- Works directly with the Quality Manager (QM) and Quality Advisory Committee (QAC)
- Under the supervision of the QM, is responsible for the coordination, implementation, and maintenance of Laboratory Quality Management system (QMS), at all sites of KHSC to ensure compliance with Accreditation Canada Diagnostics requirements and other regulatory bodies
- Leads, participates and/or facilitates departmental, divisional and/or corporate quality projects as necessary.
- Identifies problems as they arise and assists in the development and implementation of process improvement initiatives.
- Establishes liaisons with other Quality Management professionals, both internal and external to the department/institution and external inspectors to address quality issues.
- Participates in the appropriate handling of inquiries from physicians and clients to ensure effective resolution of quality assurance conflicts
- Reviews customer complaints and suggests corrective actions to the QM and QAC.
- Communicates quality initiatives and accomplishments to the Joint Management Team, clinical laboratory staff and stakeholders.

**Technical, Operational and Project Supervision**:

- Maintains a leadership role in Continuous Quality Improvement initiatives.
- Assists, counsels employees on the interpretation and administration of Quality Assurance policies, processes and procedures.
- Coordinates policy, process, and procedure updates, ensuring updates are validated, approved, distributed and filed accordingly.
- Works with laboratory managers and senior technical staff to provide collated reports of internal and external quality assurance indicators for the laboratory report card.
- Coordinates with the QM and participates in accreditation and inspection audits from external regulatory agencies.
- Performs regular internal quality assurance audits. Works with the QM and QAC to ensure proper investigation, documentation, and implementation of preventative measures.
- Assists the QM and Laboratory Administrative and/or Medical Director in the development of a process for the review and analysis of programs and systems to ensure continuous improvement targets are achieved.
- Determines best practices for standardization across sites/divisions and makes recommendation to the QM.
- In consultation with QM and laboratory managers and senior technical staff, ensures that all tests are being performed according to accepted standards and regulations.
- Identifies opportunities to improve quality and turnaround time (TAT) by increasing understanding or coordinating mutually beneficial changes in practice by laboratory and scientific staff.

**Education and Staff Development**:

- Promotes and practices professional competency through personal continuing education.
- Supports staff, and student education and competency assessment. Makes recommendations regarding training, education, support associated with meeting and inability to meet standards of the QMS when deficiencies are identified.
- Addresses staff inquiries pertaining to accreditation standards and the Quality Management System.
- Promotes a pleasant working atmosphere to foster development of strong team spirit and improved morale.
- Celebrates achievements, communicates achievements

**Special Projects**:

- Assists the QM and or laboratory Director with special projects.
- Assists the QAC to ensure compliance with performance standards and legislative requirements.

**BASIC QUALIFICATIONS**:

- MLT with experience in an accredited clinical laboratory.
- Current registration in good standing with the CMLTO.
- Demonstrated leadership abilities, excellent interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to manage change initiatives in a fast-paced environment.
- ART or undergraduate. (preferred)
- Certificate in Clinical Laboratory Quality Management.
