About the Role

Reporting to the Quality Assurance Manager, the Quality Control Supervisor is a champion for quality and safety at Canada Royal Milk (CRM).  The Quality Control Supervisor is responsible for ensuring that all materials, processes, and procedures meet regulatory and quality standards. As the steward of the Quality Management System, the Supervisor strives for continuous improvement in both systems and human resources.

The Supervisor's role is to plan, develop and implement a comprehensive QMS including online quality control as well as internal auditing. The ability to build and maintain positive relationships across departments and with regulatory bodies is required for success in the role. This position requires frequent interaction with Quality Assurance as well as food safety regulatory agencies in China.  

Job Requirements

Applicants must be legally entitled to work in Canada and have strong English language skills. The ability to read and understand written English and communicate in English both spoken and in writing is a requirement of the job.

Education: Bachelor of Science degree in Food Science, Chemistry or Biology

Experience: Two or more years of experience performing quality control tests in a food, beverage, or dairy production environment. Dairy experience preferred.

Minimum of 2 years of experience supervising, coaching, and developing employees.

Work in compliance with the provisions of the OHSA, regulations, internal programs, policies and procedures.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Responsible for monitoring and assisting of onsite operation management.
  2. Responsible for maintaining the quality control for product, coordinate the usage of semi-product and the FG packaging quality.
  3. Responsible for summarizing quality data, including semi-product, FG, online test and environment.
  4. Assist and supervision of implementation of QMS and other quality related procedures and policies. Responsible for feedback to QA to maintain QMS (Production and Utilities)
  5. Responsible for training production technicians for online test and shadowing.
  6. Supervises the QC Technicians and coordinates lab activities and testing to ensure efficiency and accuracy.
  7. Coordinate and review comparison testing for in-process and lab equipment and technician testing performance monitoring including performing and/or coordinating necessary equipment calibration changes.
  8. In addition to GMP, coordinates and maintain adherence with Good Laboratory Practices (GLP's).
  9. Ensure in-process lab equipment is kept cleaned and sterilized and instruments are calibrated.
  10. Maintain Food Safety program – completion of Food Safety Inspections, Water Testing, Environmental Swabbing (ATP), Pest Control program and system validations. Steve?
  11. MSDS update of chemical log and ensure that all MSDS forms are up to date.
  12. Collect and review all quality checks.
  13. Create and maintain Standard Operation Procedures (SOP) and SSOP for production floor QC duties.
  14. Investigate food safety and quality incidents/deviations and participate in filing CAPA (Corrective and Preventive Action)
  15. Prepare and review all documents for quality control, including in-process documentation.
  16. Monitor completeness of documentation and maintain electronic QC records.
  17. Conduct quality controls in accordance with the directives of the quality system and the various quality plans
  18. Monitor housekeeping, cleaning and sanitation, personal hygiene, and pest control programs of the facility

Employee Development

1.      The QC Supervisor will lead and schedule the day-to-day activities of the Quality Technicians to ensure in-process testing is complete, accurate & compliant to specifications and in accordance with the Collective Agreement.

2.      Train all new employees on food safety and quality policies and procedures.

3.      Provide leadership and supervision to staff by providing work direction, performance feedback, and recommendations for training and development;

4.      Promote a positive working environment, including continuously improving/maintaining the team culture and establishing high levels of employee involvement;

5.      Ensure relevant OSHA regulations are fully complied with, including personal protective equipment, fall protection, forklift, and hazard communication requirements;

Working Conditions

Shift work will be required and will include evenings, weekends and over-night work.

Working conditions are normal for a manufacturing environment. Work involves frequent lifting of materials and product up to 50 pounds. Machinery operation requires the use of safety equipment to include but not limited to; eye safety glasses, hearing protectors, work boots, and hardhats. Loose fitting clothes and jewelry are not permitted.

Must be able to lift weights that may exceed 25 Kg.
