Destination Canada is looking for an **Event Director**,** **to join our team in Vancouver as we inspire travellers to explore Canada.

The Event Director plays a pivotal role in guiding decision-making and strategic planning for events, managing financial resources, and cultivating and optimizing relationships with event vendors. This involves navigating the diverse needs of multiple stakeholders, ensuring a balanced approach to meet their respective requirements.

From the initial strategic development of events to their actual execution, this role contributes to the ongoing evolution of Destination Canada's (DC) brand. Additionally, the role focuses on shaping stakeholder, Board, and client perceptions and engagement through the various events organized by DC. Ultimately, the Event Director plays a key role in enhancing the organization's image and fostering positive connections with its audience.

The role ensures alignment between all different business units at Destination Canada and demonstrates a consistent approach in regard to all events.

**DUTIES**:
The Event Director will be responsible for delivering on the following tasks:

- Create and implement short and long-term strategies to drive the direction and vision of DC’s events in alignment with DC brand and corporate strategy.
- Partner with key stakeholders on event innovation, end-to-end event planning and successful event execution aligned to event management best practices.
- Improve time and process efficiency by ensuring all forecasted and new event activation plans are executed professionally, efficiently, and fiscally responsibly.
- Work with DC Brand and Global Content teams to develop a repository of resources to capture and share “best in show
- marketing assets, digital content and brand experiences which may be applied across DC’s markets.
- Lead the DC Event Team on the management of third-party agencies and contractors in the delivery and project management of DC-led signature events and the Business Events team‘s major trade shows.
- Design end-to-end experiences to engage attendees to DC events.
- Ensure all events are following our regenerative approach to tourism focusing on reducing and measure the events’ carbon footprints, waste management and alignment with the UN Sustainable Development Goals
- Enhance DC’s competitive position by maximizing strategic event partnerships; consolidating event suppliers; negotiating event elements to generate cost efficiencies and streamlining processes.
- Lead the post-event evaluations and the post-event analysis debrief, share learnings, and implement best practices and learnings for future events.

**Essential Qualifications**

**EDUCATION**:

- Post-secondary studies (degree or diploma) in project management, marketing or another field directly related to the position and significant related industry experience is required.
- CMP Designation (Certified Meeting Planner) or equivalent is an asset.
- At least six years of experience in event planning, with experience managing a team, third party contractors and vendors.
- Established track record leveraging relationships and partnerships with agencies, third-party suppliers, and internal stakeholders.
- Experience with brand management and related assets for events
- Experience in project management, writing projects briefs and managing associated budgets.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle matters with discretion and diplomacy.

**KNOWLEDGE**:

- Knowledge of Canadian tourism industry trends and related challenges and opportunities.
- Knowledge of industry event design, planning and management.
- Knowledge of innovations in event marketing trends business practices and business models.
- Understanding of various customer segments and their event planning needs (Boards, Committees, Leisure Travel & Business Events).

- Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to manage a team with multiple projects and time-sensitive priorities.
