A global transition to clean-energy technologies will drive increasing demand for critical minerals. In 2021, the Canadian Government released a list of 31 minerals considered to be “critical” to this transition and economic security. Similarly, the Province of Saskatchewan has made critical minerals a key focus of the provincial growth plan. Research fields that may contribute to this work include, but are not limited to, economic geology, petrology, structural geology, geochemistry, or novel sources for critical minerals.
The **Department of Earth Sciences** **is one of six departments in the **Faculty of Science**. As a small, dynamic unit it is recognized for its excellence in research, as well as high-calibre undergraduate and graduate programs in Geology and Environmental Geoscience. Our department includes nine tenured or tenure-track geoscientists and two lab instructors who have fostered relationships with industry and various provincial and federal agencies.
