Job Summary

This position involves the coordination of an implementation science project conducted in urban, rural and Indigenous communities in BC and several other provinces in Canada, in partnership with Special Olympics BC (SOBC) and the Indigenous Sport, Physical Activity & Recreation Council (I-SPARC), as well as additional community partners.

The Research Coordinator will participate in developing and sustaining relationships with organizations delivering or supporting physical activity programs in various communities across Canada, supporting the development and refinement of tools and resources to support KidsAction implementation, coordinating knowledge sharing activities, coordinating and providing training across sites, and serving as the point person coordinating all activities with the communities involved in this rapidly developing, multi-province research project.

The coordinator will be involved in data collection and management across a number of field sites in BC and across Canada that will involve varied community members. This activity may involve travelling to the sites. Other key activities include managing and updating the project website and its resources, which include education and training materials, and working with community partners, research participants and advisory committee members to co-produce, gather feedback on and refine project resources and approaches.

The Research Coordinator will also provide periodic progress summaries to the Project Manager and/or PI. Early identification of challenges and support needs at each site will be critical for enabling the organization of meetings and specific actions to address them.

Organizational Status

The Research Coordinator will report directly to the PI, Dr. Stephanie Glegg, and the co-PI, Dr. Lise Olsen, and receive feedback from the Project Manager.

Work Performed
- Coordinates with local community site facilitators across Canada, and reports on progress to the project manager and/or PI.
- Commutes to community sites across Canada (in accordance with any provincial public health restrictions or recommendations on travel due to COVID-19) and engages in collaborative dialogue with community partners and their affiliates regarding ongoing program and research activities.
- Organizes and leads in-person and virtual training and educational sessions for coaches and families at the different sites (e.g., prepare/order equipment and materials, organize team travel, develop/refine training materials, deliver training)
- Oversees and conducts research participant recruitment
- Manages evaluation activities, including creating questionnaires in Qualtrics, overseeing data collection, coordinating with research sites to compile data and ensure its quality, and contributing to data analysis.
- Provides support and communication to community partners to aid in community-based data collection and evaluation processes.
- Organizes, maintains and updates lists, project documents, a shared project calendar, reports, and research data.
- Manages and updates the project’s website and its resources, including online learning modules, as well as the project’s YouTube channel.
- Orients new research staff and trainees to the project and their responsibilities, responding to their support needs
- Delegates tasks to research assistants/trainees based on their skill sets, and provides training and feedback while overseeing the quality of their work
- Conducts literature searches as needed, reviewing articles, compiling annotated bibliographies, and assisting with manuscript and conference submission development.
- Prepares documents, including correspondence, report drafts, newsletters, posters, presentations, and quarterly reports.
