**ROLE SUMMARY**

The Community Planner will be a key advocate for community involvement and will play a vital role in promoting the organization's mission and values. The job includes community engagement, communicating with community partners and organizing educational events. This will include coordinating educational programing for legal literacy, human rights, and advocacy workshops.

**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**

**Outreach and Networking**:

- Plan, and coordinate community events, workshops, and programs that promote community engagement and participation. This could include legal literacy symposiums, ethics events and networking events.
- Participate in community events with MARL partners when available.

**Website and Promotion**:

- Assist the promotion of community initiatives.
- Schedule, create agendas and take meeting minutes for staff, partnerships, committee meetings.
- Maintain statistics on MARL community events and meetings.

**Committee Organization**:

- Work closely with the MARL’s Black, Indigenous, People of Colour (BIPOC) and youth committees with the development of materials and event planning.
- Work with the committees to organize and implement projects.
- Provide program support for community building in marginalized communities in Manitoba.

**Workshop Facilitation & Education**:

- Assist with workshop facilitation, when necessary, this can include afterschool, evening, and weekend workshops.
- Coordinate workshops that will be presented at the Legal Literacy Symposium and the Human Rights and Advocacy Symposiums. Update the Under 18 Handbook.

**3 positions available, tasks will be assigned based on ability and interest.

**JOB REQUIREMENTS**
- Have experience working with others in a team environment; this could include sports, community groups or cultural programming.
- Familiarity with social media platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter would be an asset.
- Ability to use Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and Doodle to participate in virtual meetings and programming.
- Open to learning through regular work activities, from co-workers, or by accessing training on or off site.

**ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA**
- Be between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of the placement.
- Be a Canadian citizen, or permanent resident or a protected person as defined by the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.
- Be legally entitled to work in Canada.
- Be legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.
