Edmonton, Canada Organization for the Prevention of Violence Full time

**Applications submitted without a cover letter will not be considered**

This position’s primary role is to provide, in conjunction with the OPV Intervention Team, front-line services and psychosocial support to service participants and their families who are impacted by hate-motivated violence and extremism. _**The caseworker will be responsible for working with service participants in Alberta, primarily in Calgary and surrounding areas as well as Lethbridge and Medicine Hat. **_

Employing recognized good practices and working within the intervention model of the organization, the caseworker will work to create safety and stability for service participants and the wider community. This will involve work with complex service participants and co-ordination with other community-based organizations and government partners. The successful applicant will play a leading role in developing intervention plans that can meet the unique needs of service participants and their families. This requires a reflexive approach to needs and vulnerabilities in domains such as mental health and social identity, incorporating trauma-informed and strength-based approaches. Being comfortable within a multi-disciplinary team is necessary; therefore, experience operating within a multi-stakeholder or round table (hub) approach is considered advantageous.

The caseworker provides support to other staff when necessary (e.g., as a caseworker needs to attend to competing demands.) The caseworker will also provide on-going case consultation and support on all casefiles and intervention-related matters. The individual will also manage data collection, case notes, and file documentation using case management software. The successful applicant will also be expected to develop and deliver presentations on the organization and its mandate to a variety of partners, stakeholders, and the general community, as well as facilitate stakeholder engagement sessions around issues of hate-motivated violence. Opportunities may also arise for research and report writing, which will involve the collection and analysis of interviews, surveys and quantitative data. The Case Worker must be highly self-motivated and capable of following through on tasks independently, while also being able to work in a collaborative and team-based environment.

**Responsibilities and Duties**:

- Create case plans that are focused on an assessment of risk, needs, strengths, and protective factors.
- Provide case consultation on complex case files to the intervention organization and relevant stakeholders
- Maintain accurate and timely case records.
- Review and update documents related to organizational standards and practices.
- Facilitate the continued development of the intervention program and provide critical feedback to the intervention team and executive.
- Facilitate the ongoing development of a multi-agency prevention model and maintain and develop positive relationships with external stakeholders.
- Review research, evidence-based practices and theories of practice related to the organization’s areas of work.
- Participate in team projects aimed at improving practice, the organization, and collaborating with other similar programs across Canada.
- Create, tailor, and deliver presentations to stakeholders regarding the organization and the services it provides.
- Consider the opportunity to conduct research and author reports related to the organization’s areas of work.

**Requirements/Qualifications**:

- Degree in Human Services Field (Bachelor's or Master's).
- Active registration with applicable professional college (e.g., Alberta College of Social Workers).
- Clear Criminal Record, Intervention Record and Vulnerable Sector check.
- Two plus years’ experience working with complex clientele and families in related areas such as violence prevention, criminal justice, addictions and mental health, and/or crisis intervention.
- Demonstrates strong communication and writing skills.
- Demonstrates self-awareness, self-reflection, critical thinking skills, as well as a willingness to engage in continual learning in an emerging field.
- Self-motivated and driven, capable of working both independently and in a team environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, and experience using electronic case management software.
- Class 5 driver’s license (or provincial equivalent).
- Access to reliable vehicle with appropriate insurance is preferred.
- Capable of completing tasks in a timely and orderly manner.

**Working Conditions**:

- While the OPV's office is in Edmonton, Alberta, the successful applicant will likely reside in or around Calgary, Alberta. This position will be a mix of working from home and providing frontline support to service participants in southern Alberta.
- Some intra-provincial travel may be required.
- A flexible schedule and ability to work some evenings and weekends as needed to accommodate service participants.
