Position Summary
Reporting to the Manager, Paterson Library Commons, this position is responsible for creating and maintaining bibliographic records, cataloguing physical and digital resources according to current cataloging rules and standards and works with the Library Systems Officer around the provision of technical support, uploading, and maintenance of eResources. The incumbent is further responsible for the retrieval and analysis of technical and user related statistics, the development of reports, and processing of daily mail. As well, the incumbent is responsible for all core Acquisitions related duties for the ordering of library collection materials; initiating the purchase requisition process, tracking open orders, coordinating of print and online serials; investigating copyright and closed-captioning queries; processing received material, investigating platforms for hosting streamed content; initiating the invoice approval process, claiming missing or damaged items, contacting vendors or finance to resolve problems with receipt or payment of library resources, and compiling and tracking financial data on collections expenditure. Additionally, the incumbent provides reference, askON, circulation, and library use guidance at the Public Service Desk, as scheduled. Finally, the incumbent contributes to the advancement of library services by keeping skills current and participating on committees and in meetings both internal and external to the college and library. Maintain the integrity and consistency of the library catalogue add, edit, delete bibliographic records of books, periodicals, videos, electronic and other materials, adhering to Machine Readable format ( MARC ) and where required, evaluate MARC record formats provided by vendors and establish routines for batch loads and removal of bibliographic records

Type of Experience

Experience working in a Library environment with Integrated Library Systems. Strong customer/public service focus and skills. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are required to troubleshoot complex technical issues, resolve hardware/software problems issues, and produce improvements to existing processes. Good judgment to enable the position holder to work independently, demonstrate initiative and employ analytical thinking to solve problems

Proficiency with Windows Operating System and automated Library Information Management Systems. Solid understanding of database structures and understanding of electronic and manual cataloguing. The incumbent should be conversant with cataloguing standards and practices (AACR2, LC classification, LCSH, MARC and authority formats.) Understanding of Marc Edit software required.

Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Outlook, and basic knowledge of Microsoft SharePoint, and Teams.

Demonstrated knowledge and experience of acquisitions software/function including bookkeeping and budget maintenance skills. Accounts Payable/Accounts Receivable knowledge and experience with data entry and computerized purchasing and financial systems.

Ability to work independently and self-monitor deadlines and completeness of work. High level of accuracy, meticulous attention to detail and strong organizational skills. Demonstrates strong analysis and solutions-based problem-solving skills, strong active listening skills and an effective approach to written and verbal communication with an emphasis on diplomacy. Able to preserve confidentiality and exercise discretion. Able to work under pressure and manage multiple projects with competing deadlines and priorities. The incumbent must have initiative, show good judgement, and be able to work in a fast paced, multi-cultural, multi-lingual, academic environment.
