**The Opportunity**

Scholastic Canada is looking for a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Resource Specialist who will be a champion for our corporate DEI Strategy when it comes to ensuring that our products reflect the diversity of the children and classrooms we serve across the country.

**Work Location**:This role is hybrid, requiring virtual and in-office work (at either our downtown Toronto or Markham location), as projects require.

**Primary** **Responsibilities**
- Provide leadership in ensuring that products and resources have been created and reviewed with an equity lens at all stages of the development process
- Support the organization with the implementation of the Product pillar of our DEI Strategy, including: working with Product divisions to support the implementation of DEI-related goals and commitments, leading cross-channel conversations and recommending corporate guidance on DEI issues in publishing, supporting the authenticity reader process
- Provide product/market feedback to Publishing/Editorial and Marketing on the representation of diverse identities and experiences in content, including Indigenous, Black, racialized, and 2SLGBTQIA+ peoples as well as other groups that remain underrepresented within children’s publishing
- Navigate complex content-related issues and develop informed guidance to remedy them at both the development and review stages
- Review and evaluate acquired and backlist product to determine its suitability in the Canadian market from an equity perspective
- Classify a wide range of titles into appropriate thematic collections
- Analyze representational gaps in our publishing lists and identify opportunities in the market
- Represent Scholastic’s DEI strategy and the DEI lens of our educational products at meetings and conferences with schools, school boards, principals, teachers, and curriculum/equity consultants
- Develop and facilitate professional learning for Sales Consultants to develop cultural competency; build capacity to speak to issues of equity, anti-oppression, and systemic discrimination; and to lead DEI customer meetings as required

**Qualifications**

**Education**
- Post-secondary degree in a relevant area of study, preferably with a focus on equity studies, social justice education, human rights, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

**Experience**
- Demonstrated experience in developing and/or evaluating resources or curriculum with an equity lens within an institutional or educational environment
- Comprehensive knowledge of social inequities, human rights, anti-racism and all forms of anti-oppression including current research and best practices
- Proven ability in promoting equitable practices which affirm and acknowledge all intersecting identities
- Clear evidence of leadership in diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives and a record of working collaboratively with a wide range of constituencies who may have different ideas and needs, with diplomacy, empathy, and tact
- Demonstrated experience analyzing and presenting data as well as developing and facilitating trainings to build DEI knowledge and capacity
- Lived experience relevant to the goals and mandate of this position
- Working knowledge of DEI concepts in education (e.g., culturally relevant and responsive pedagogy) an asset

- Self-awareness of values, biases, stereotypes, prejudices, and conscious language usage
