**Who You Are**:
A background in the animal care/shelter industry is not necessary, but is an asset. You would work closely with the Shelter Care team, as well as our educated trainers and veterinary technicians to ensure every animal is well taken care of. A general love of animals is appreciated, welcomed, and encouraged, but it’s important to note that this position is a whole lot more than playing with puppies - Animal care is a full time job

**What You Should Expect**:
A typical day in the life of an ACW involves dog walking, feeding, cleaning, moving and lifting of various tools and equipment, along with the operation of various cleaning tools and machinery. A valid G license is a definite asset.

**Work Conditions**:
Shifts at the shelter can include evenings, weekends, overnights, and holidays - the animals sometimes spend their holidays with us, and we take care of them throughout their entire stay

Working with animals means frequent interruptions and unexpected situations that can pop up at any time. It also involves periods of lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of heavy to moderately heavy objects and materials, and some combination of climbing and balancing to include stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling in order to complete all those essential tasks that keep our animals happy and healthy during their stay.

Performing these daily tasks also means that our animal care workers may be exposed to dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, weather, temperature and noise extremes, hazardous materials, traffic hazards, bright/dim lights, toxic agents, animal/wildlife attacks, animal/human bites, disease, pathogenic substances, or rude/irate customers.
