We are looking for a **Design Lead**. Can you see yourself successfully managing a portfolio of designs required to remediate and restore properties identified with low level radioactive waste (LLRW) ? Does the idea of ensuring the designs meet safety, scope, cost, schedule, quality, environmental, stakeholder relations and regulatory objectives set by CNL and the Design Manager excite you ? **What will you be doing**
- Leading the group of project coordinators achieving the design goals, and providing coordination, interfacing and reporting with various stakeholders.
- Being instrumental in the development of, and regular improvement to procedures and processes.
- Project Controls : Reporting progress, and identifying issues that could impact project objectives, effectively communicates these issues to management and develops and implements corrective action plans to eradicate or mitigate the adverse impact.
- Safety : Ensure ‘safety in design’ for both design intent and constructability; provide support to design team to ensure design site visits are executed in a safe manner consistent with CNL policies and procedures. Actively participate and lead team by example CNL’s journey to safety excellence.
- Scope : Manage the scope of each design and design package, identify and ensure timely delivery of deliverables to support the Remediation schedule. This includes review, oversight and updates of Technical Specifications required during remediation and restoration.
- Schedule : Supports the development of and maintains a detailed schedule for the execution of the design phase over the life of the project. Ensures sufficient schedule contingency is provided to manage schedule risk. Tracks and monitors schedule adherence and pre-emptively identifies and manages schedule risk and issues to ensure the delivery of design packages to meet the Remediation timelines. Tracks contractor schedule adherence and facilitates the implementation of recovery plans developed by the contractor to maintain predictable design package delivery dates. Reconciles Schedule Performance Index and takes action to improve. Coordination with the Project Controls Coordinator (PCC) in aligning and adjusting the project schedule as needed.
- Cost : Review contractor invoices and change orders, reconciles scope of work completed versus contractor accrued or invoiced amounts and makes recommendations for invoice and change order approvals; Reconciles actual costs versus planned value and earned value and provides cost variance explanations; Monitors Cost Performance Index (CPI) and takes action to improve. Ensure designs are being generated with cost efficiency by implementing changes to improve cost efficiency.
- Quality : Engages quality support staff and drives actions to ensure that designs meet quality standards, and continuously improve to better facilitate remediation and restoration of properties.
- Environmental : Ensures that the project is conducted while meeting CNL and project environmental requirements
- Stakeholder Relations : Ensures designs are developed meeting internal and external stakeholder expectations, and maintaining good relations with residents, the municipality and internal CNL departments.
- Regulatory: Ensures designs and engineering work packages address current regulatory requirements and abide by applicable codes and standards.
- Risk Management : Pre-emptively identifies project risks on an on-going basis, updates project risk registers and works with the Manager, Design Oversight to implement actions to effectively manage these risks.
- Issues Management : Pre-emptively identifies project issues, communicates these issues to line management and works with Design Manager to implement actions to effectively manage these issues.
- Other duties as assigned by one’s manager.
