Wellness Coordinator- Job Number : 44822The Wellness Coordinator will manage programs and coordinate resources related to the mental health and wellness of Emergency Communications Officers (ECOs) working in 9-1-1 and police dispatch roles within the Edmonton Police Service Emergency Communications Centre. This position will report to the Staff Sergeant of Reintegration and Resiliency, within the Employee and Organizational Wellness Branch. (EOWB). This role will work closely with the Operations Manager in the Emergency Communications and Operations Management Branch (ECOMB). The Wellness Coordinator will provide administrative program management for employee wellness and will not provide direct client support or counselling. Responsibilities of the role will include:
- Research, develop and manage proactive programs and initiatives supporting employee mental health and wellness in conjunction with the EOWB.
- Develop and deliver basic resiliency and mental health training for Emergency Communications Officers.
- Liaise with internal stakeholders within the Employee and Organizational Wellness branch to provided individualized resources for Emergency Communications Officers.
- Liaise with the Internal Consulting Psychologist.
- Consult with employees in response to legislative requirements and concerns raised by management or an employee. The Wellness Coordinator, being the first point of contact, assesses each situation and with confidentiality seeks the appropriate information and resources to be of assistance.
- Chair the ECOMB Employee Engagement Committee and coordinate committee activities to improve employee engagement, morale and retention while building strong relationships within the ECOMB Emergency Communications Centre.
- Manage external contracts related to psychological screening during the recruitment of Emergency Communications Officers and routine psychological check-ins for ECOs, in conjunction with the ECOMB Operations Manager.
- Liaise with Disability Management, Human Resources, Reintegration & Resiliency Section, ECOMB management and the ECOMB Quality Assurance and Training Unit to coordinate successful return to work plans for Emergency Communications Officers.
- Reduce the frequency and severity of Occupational Stress injuries by working with the EPS Employee Family Assistance Program, Occupational Health & Safety Section, Fitness and Lifestyle Unit, Disability Management, ECOMB Management and the ECOMB Quality Assurance and Training Unit.
- Ensure ECO wellness programs are current with best practices in other public safety agencies, keep abreast of changes to relevant legislation and developments in mental health training, and maintain inventory of mental health resources within the Emergency Communications Centre.
- Conduct analysis of performance measurement data to evaluate program success and effectiveness and identify trends.
- Develop recommendations and write reports for use by management in the development, implementation and delivery of programs and information.
- All relevant EPS Policies and Procedures: OHS legislation, CSU52 Bargaining Agreement, EPA Collective Bargaining Agreement, any other applicable.
- Other duties as required.
- Qualifications:
- A Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, or related field
- Current Critical incident Stress Management (CISM), Suicide Intervention (ASIST), or other related training, course work or certificates in the field of mental health and wellness.
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in Employee Supports in a large organization.
- Knowledge and/or experience with emergency communications centers.
- Experience working within a paramilitary environment.
- Experience working within a large multi-union employer.
- Conflict Management/Resolution Training.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Proven communication abilities including active listening.
- Demonstrated problem solving and collaboration skills.
- Familiarity with employee support programs and protocols, Critical Incident Stress Management and Early Intervention.
- Proven history of discretion and ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Proven ability to work within a team environment.
- Strong leadership skills and organizational experiences in leading a team.
- Effective presentation skills utilizing adult learning principles.
- As part of your pre-hire screening you will be required to complete an Enhanced Security Clearance. Should you accept employment with the Edmonton Police Service you acknowledge and agree to participate in future Enhanced Security Re-Clearances at scheduled intervals or in any other circumstances, exigent or otherwise, as required by Human Resources Division.
