**PURPOSE AND GENERAL DESCRIPTION**:
The Coordinator, Conservation Biology - Rice Lake Plains-Lake Iroquois Plain, reports to the Central Ontario-East Program Director. This position will lead conservation efforts focused across the Rice Lake Plains-Lake Iroquois Plain Natural Area and around Northumberland County, working closely with the Coordinator, Conservation Biology - Central Ontario -East. The Coordinator, Conservation Biology is responsible for the stewardship and administration of NCC properties and contributes to strategic conservation planning. The objective of the program is the delivery of NCC’s mission of protecting biological diversity through strategic, science-based land conservation and stewardship.

Emphasis for this position will be placed on leading stewardship of NCC’s lands including activities such as habitat restoration, invasive species management, trail maintenance and property monitoring. The role will work closely with external partners, including NGOs, government agencies, Conservation Authorities, landowners and landowner groups, and other interest groups, to collaboratively conserve, steward and restore habitats, with a focus on tallgrass ecosystems at a landscape scale. This includes playing a role in ongoing and emerging private land stewardship initiatives.

**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**:
**1. Property Management and Conservation Planning**
- Manage fieldwork, data entry, analysis, and reporting required to develop and implement property management plans for NCC properties;
- Monitor and maintain trails, fences, gates, signage, and address liability issues on NCC properties such as unwanted motorized vehicle access and trespassing;
- Implement recommended stewardship and management actions on NCC properties, with a focus on invasive species monitoring and removal and habitat restoration, with a special focus on tallgrass ecosystems (oak woodland, oak savannah, tallgrass prairie, sand barren);
- Plan and implement prescribed burns on an annual basis;
- Provide infield supervision of Assistant(s), Conservation Biology and/or seasonal Conservation Technicians;
- Develop and manage leases, contracts and research permits pertaining to NCC properties;
- Monitor the status of biodiversity targets and threats and the effectiveness of conservation actions on NCC properties;
- Monitor and map the distribution of species at risk, and other conservation targets, on NCC properties;
- Manage the field work and reporting required to develop and implement Property Management Plans for NCC owned properties;
- Coordinate the monitoring and reporting on the status of conservation targets and threats on NCC properties and properties transferred from NCC to conservation partners;
- Coordinate the implementation of landscape-scale control of invasive species, focusing on Scots pine, Phragmites, Common Buckthorn, and Dog-strangling Vine in NCC’s Rice Lake Plains-Lake Iroquois Plain Natural Area;
- Support conservation efforts being led by the Coordinator, Conservation Biology for Central Ontario-East.

**2. Administration**
- Ensure that accurate and current baseline property information and records are available to managers;
- Work with administrative staff to ensure the enrollment of all NCC eligible properties into applicable tax incentive or reduction programs;
- Ensure that NCC’s Land Resource Management System is populated with accurate and complete data, including required digital layers;
- Ensure all liability issues are dealt with promptly and accurate records are maintained for insurance related matters; and,
- Ensure that conditions of all agreements (e.g., landholding agreements, fee for service agreements, research permits, lease agreements) are administered in a timely fashion.

**3. Development and Fundraising**
- Work with the Program Director to identify new resources and programs to help achieve strategic conservation goals;
- Assist the Program Director in advising Development staff of funding priorities, amounts and deadlines for ongoing stewardship needs;
