Reporting to the Manager of Species Recovery and Program Assessment. Under direct supervision of the Manager and with guidance from the Adopt-A-Pond Program Coordinator this position assists the Coordinator and Conservation Steward with various conservation projects, field research, data analysis, developing education materials, and public outreach to support the Adopt-A-Pond Wetland Conservation Program. This position is also responsible for assisting and providing support in implementing the Strategic Plan.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Provides assistance with various conservation projects related to wetland conservation, specifically with respect to reptiles and amphibians, as directed by the Manager or Coordinator.
- Conducts field research, compiles and analyzes research data, and reports on results.
- Provides assistance with the program resources and educational materials related to the conservation projects.
- May involve some basic husbandry.
- Delivers public outreach such as presentations and workshops.
- Provides assistance with funding and grant proposals and report writing.
- Other related duties as requested by the Manager.
- Provides regular updates to the Manager and Coordinator.

QUALIFICATIONS:

- Must have completed at least 1-year of a post-secondary degree/diploma related to the field (e.g. wildlife biology, ecology, environmental science, etc.), or have the equivalent amount of experience and training.
- Must possess 6 months’ previous experience related to the position.
- Knowledge of Ontario reptile and amphibians is an asset, particularly safe handling practices and frog call identification.
- Must have proven, exceptional interpersonal skills and strong organizational skills.
- Must have proven, strong written and verbal communication skills using the English language.
- Must possess a full G license with a good driving record.
- Possess working knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act and WHMIS.
- Must be capable of performing the physical demands of the job and willing to work in challenging outdoor conditions (e.g. biting insects, inclement weather, etc.).
- Must be able and willing to work on/off site as well as shifts, weekends and holidays. Remote work may be permitted for some duties in accordance with provincial guidelines with respect to the pandemic.
