**About Us**:
The Road Safety Division at the Department of Public Works is responsible for the administration of drivers and vehicles in the province. We are responsible for the policies, legislation, and regulations that guide Road Safety in our province. We operate in a proactive regulatory environment. We maintain records regarding driver licensing, medical fitness, driver competency, and compliance, all working together to ensure a safe road network.

You are part of the team who directly impacts safety in your Province through driver education, evaluation, and testing. If you have a passion for delivering great service, a commitment to safety, the drive to make a difference, and the willingness to go the extra mile, then we want to hear from you.

**About Our Opportunity**:
We offer an internationally certified in-house training program, providing an excellent career advancement opportunity. You will spend time with our service partners at Service Nova Scotia and Internal Services (SNS-IS), becoming familiar with the documents, policies, and processes that guide our industry such as drivers’ licenses, vehicle permits, and registration documents. You will also learn to administer written tests, vision tests and screening. You will have in-car training (including backseat observation and evaluation) along with training in driver intervention (including driver counseling, re-examines, interviews, and restorations). Further training includes commercial and motorcycle training courses.

This is a very structured training program with frequent check-ins and testing. We also provide access to educational workshops and information sessions along the way, ensuring you are up to date on all.

**Primary Accountabilities**:
As the Driver Examiner, you play a critical role in supporting road safety in your province and the results of your work are very far reaching; impacting driver, passenger, and pedestrian ability to return home safely.

You will conduct up to 12 road tests a day ranging from learners, upgrades and motorcycle examinations to driver interventions. In your role, you maintain a high level of standards when determining driver ability and competency in the safe operation of a motor vehicle. You examine, re-examine, license and evaluate new and experienced drivers in accordance with the provisions of the Motor Vehicle Act and Regulations. You assess driver behavior and determine the best course of action for moving forward. You conduct client interviews on topics such as Driver's License records history and make subsequent recommendations to the Deputy Registrar of Motor Vehicles. Given the sensitivity of information dealt with daily, this position requires you to maintain a high degree of neutrality and confidentiality.
