Upstream Ottawa Mental Health Community Support (Upstream Ottawa) is a registered charitable organization and has been a provider of community based mental health services since 1985. We are committed to providing meaningful community-based, client-focused, and equitable mental health, substance-use health, and addiction support services to adult and youth populations.

Upstream receives core funding from the Government of Ontario and has recently seen that funding expanded to include new mental health and substance use services to support Black youth and their families. We go above and beyond the expectations of our core donors by offering Wellness Programs that focus on connecting clients with a community of support, providing housing supports to ensure clients have a safe and affordable place to live, and bolstering community resources through initiatives such as our Upstream Psychiatric Assessment Clinic to improve Ottawans’ access to health services.

Position: Development Officer (DO)
Location: Remote/Hybrid, Office Located 204-100 Craig Henry Drive, Ottawa, ON
Posting: Full-Time (35 hours/week), 18-month Contract
Compensation: $40,000 - $50,000 + a competitive Benefits and Vacation Package
Reports to: Executive Director
Anticipated Start: Immediate

**Position Overview**

Over the last several years, Upstream Ottawa has devoted time and resources to Board and brand management, communications, fundraising, and social media. The DO will be the first full-time, in-house resource in Upstream Ottawa’s history dedicated to sustaining our culture of fundraising and will continue to build on the foundational success set forth by staff and volunteers. This role will support the
Executive Director, Upstream Staff, Fundraising Committee, and other volunteers in a broad range of activities.

Upstream Ottawa is a small, but mighty group of professionals who embody what it means to be a team.
We are in search of an early-to-mid career professional who is ready for a challenge surrounded by great people supporting the next stage in our fundraising journey. This is new for us, so we need someone who isn’t afraid to try new things and get creative.

**The Role**

If variety is what you seek, this position will provide ample opportunity to build and diversify your skillset. The duties and responsibilities below are in no particular order of importance:

- Event Management. Working closely with Golf Tournament Chair Jenni Condon (from the

Morning Hot Tub with Mauler, Rush, Jenni, and Brady), you’ll assist with event management, capitalizing on recent success and help make this tournament one of the premier charity tournaments in the city. Organization and communication are key, as you’ll keep track of key dates and milestones, research sponsors, connect with donors and supporters, support on-and
- off-site logistics, review data, carry out the communications plan, and more.
- Database Management. This role will spend time organizing and updating the database so that it can be a useful tool to provide reports, connect with donors, build donor profiles, measure success, and help us plan for the future.
- Growing our Stewardship Program. We’ve got a roadmap, we’ve got ideas, and we need the right person to put it all together. The DO will review donations on a regular basis, connect with supporters and prospects about all things Upstream, assist with appreciation communications and events, and share the impact Upstream Ottawa is having on the community. We need to stay engaged with those who support our mission.
- Digital Fundraising and Marketing. Through Mailchimp and social media, you’ll tell Upstream’s story and show our impact in the community.
- Grant Writing. We’ve had some success in recent years securing support from foundations and other sources. You’ll be researching a variety of funding opportunities, making sure that
- Reporting. The DO will provide various reports on a weekly, monthly, or quarterly basis to not just keep Staff, Board of Directors, and Volunteers in the know, but also identify areas where they can assist with Fundraising. Reporting will ensure we maximize their time and help them make a proficient impact.
