**Salary**: $1,974.26 to $2,412.52 bi-weekly ($51,528 - $62,966/year)
Alberta Infrastructure designs, builds, manages, and maintains government-owned and operated facilities, and collaborates with other ministries to ensure that schools, hospitals and government facilities infrastructure meet the needs of Alberta’s population. The Ministry also provides accommodation services and manages a large portfolio of owned and leased facilities while maintaining fiscal accountability and optimizing value for Albertans.
**Role Responsibilities**:
Reporting to the Facilities Coordinator, the Gardener Supervisor will plan, organize, and coordinate the operations and maintenance of the Alberta Government greenhouse.
In this hands-on position you will plan and coordinate the sourcing, production, and care of a wide variety of plants, including bedding, foliage, and exotic plant materials, to meet the requirements of the Alberta Legislature grounds. You will also develop and coordinate, seeding, planting, watering, and fertilizing schedules, monitor and resolve plant diseases, and implement an integrated pest management program to facilitate the production of high-quality plants.
As a working Gardener Supervisor, you will supervise permanent, wage, and contracted staff as required to operate the greenhouse, plant, and maintain flower beds, and prepare summer and winter floral displays. In addition to scheduling, assigning, and monitoring the work of staff, you will be responsible for ensuring and assisting that the work is performed in accordance with established standards and safety requirements and staff are appropriately trained and competent in relation to performing assigned work.
As a member of the team responsible for the operation, maintenance, and enhancement of the Alberta Legislature grounds, this position works closely with other supervisors to plan, allocate, and deploy resources for associated activities, events, and initiatives.

**Qualifications**:
**Required**:
- High school education, some related training.
- 2 years related experience in Horticultural practices and procedures, including soil preparation, transplanting, propagation, planting of bulbs, seeds and plugs, temperature, humidity and light requirements, fertilizing, pruning, cultivating, cleaning, and watering.
**Special Requirement**:
- Ability to perform various types of physical labour.
- Ability to work in severe weather conditions.
- Available for 24-hour call outs, overtime, and rotational schedules.
**Equivalencies**: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:
- 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
- 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.
**Assets**:
- Landscape and/or Greenhouse Pesticide license.
- Horticulture Certification.
- Experience in budgeting, forecasting, procurement, and contract administration principles and processes.
- Supervisory and leadership experience with experience in training staff in horticultural, safety, and operational procedures.
- Experience in planning and managing activities essential to greenhouse operations.
- Experience in estimating resources needed for greenhouse plant production program, supplies, and equipment orders.
- Experience in planning and coordinating multiple and diverse activities and projects under time and seasonal pressures.
