Are you a self starter, with a passion for communication and issues management? We are looking for a highly skilled Issues and Communications Specialist to join our team and play a pivotal role in the ongoing operational coordination of divisional correspondence and support for the daily operations of the Communications and Issues Management Unit, and to support the North Region in achieving ministerial objectives.

Reporting to the Manager, Communications and Issue Management, the Issues and Communications Specialist, plays a critical role in ensuring the Regional Director, Assistant Deputy Minister (ADM), Deputy Minister (DM) and Minister receive timely and accurate briefings on current and emerging issues, and that issues are effectively communicated and contain input from all affected program areas. Program areas within the North Region include Child Intervention (including child protection, foster/kinship care, adoptions, protection of sexually exploited children, and supports to youth through Support and Financial Assistance, Advancing Futures Bursary and Child and Youth Support Program).

This position anticipates issues, identifies solutions related to those issues. This role has a strong focus on problem solving when issues arise in a dynamic environment. The individual must be able to understand, analyze and convey complex information succinctly.

Key responsibilities of this position include but are limited to;
- Research, draft, coordinate and process all Action Requests (ARs) and other requests for information from the Minister’s office or intended for the Minister.
- Strong written acumen will assist you to ensure briefings/ARs succinctly identify issues, meet quality standards, and align with the government and ministry’s policy or position, and develops systems to continuously improve the quality and timelines of these ARs.
- Tracks and reviews products and deliverables, including briefings, correspondence, responses to inquiries, plans, brochures, reports, speeches, presentations, newsletters, and other publications.
- Integrates and analyzes information produced by the division to ensure the information products related to programs and services, policies, operational planning and change management, and initiatives, align with the strategic direction of the division and the department.
- Creating and editing multimedia (video, audio, photo) content for region staff and throughout the ministry as required while ensuring timely, quality products within budget and ensures all resources produced adhere to government guidelines and standards.
- Support the development and implementation of communications strategies for internal and external audiences,
- Support engagement initiatives which include providing communications throughout the engagement process, including operational planning and change management initiatives to connect ministerial objectives with regional needs and priorities.

**Qualifications**:
**Education and Experience**: University degree in a related field plus 2 years progressively responsible related experience; or equivalent as described below:
**Equivalency**:Directly related experience or education considered on the basis of:

- One year of experience for one year of education; or
- One year of education for one year of experience.

**Experience**:

- In-depth knowledge of communications planning and issues management techniques
- Experience in researching, drafting correspondence, preparing briefing notes.
- Experience in consulting and project management including work breakdown structures, critical path methodologies, and resource management.
- Experience in relationship building, influencing others, working collaboratively in a large and complex work environment, and managing conflicting issues
- Experience working in the field of communications and issues management.
