**Position**:Youth Employment Counselor/Mentorship Facilitator - FIN YESS Project

**Term**:35 hours per week - August 2023 - March 2024

**Position Summary**

As a member of the dynamic and growing Community Economic Development (CED), the incumbent will work closely with the Manager of CED and the Project Coordinator to coordinate and deliver the
FIN (Federal Internship for Newcomers) YESS (Youth Employment and Skills Strategy) project to support youth students referred by World University Service of Canada (WUSC) to the FIN Program through employment and mentorship supports. The FIN-YESS initiative aims to develop and test new strategies for successfully engaging young newcomer professionals in the various stages of the FIN program.

The incumbent will support WUSC Alumni outline career goals and increase their employability through mentorship support. They are also responsible for supporting the FIN YESS Project
Coordinator with all aspects of the project including but not limited to research and testing youth mentorship models, project evaluations, reporting research findings, developing outreach strategies targeted at re-engaging WUSC Alumni, and providing employment-related supports, along with supporting operational procedures.

**Main Responsibilities**:

- Working closely with the CED Manager and Project Coordinator, facilitate project procedures workflow, reports, and resources for clients and mentors
- Conduct client intakes, assessments, and referrals to assess employment readiness; define short

& long-term career action plans and identify motivation
- Identify gaps in clients’ settlement and career action plan; Make referrals with OCISO and to partners and community organizations
- In collaboration with WUSC, support the Project Coordinator to recruit and train bilingual peer facilitators, conduct focus groups and interviews with peer facilitators through participatory research
- Recruit, train, and onboard mentors within the WUSC FIN Alumni as well as existing OCISO’s FIN mentors; Facilitate mentor orientation and training sessions
- Establishes and facilitates volunteer Mentor outreach and retention strategies
- Maintain mentor/mentee database for the purpose of detailed activity/outcome tracking
- Deliver orientation sessions for youth mentees; Facilitate a mentorship match by connecting youth with mentors; ensure youth feel supported throughout the mentorship match; collect feedback and evaluate interventions
- Engage alumni to facilitate Peer to Peer (P2P) leadership workshops for participating youth in order to increase employment-related competencies and confidence
- Coordinate and support employment-related supports such as speed mentoring, interviewing events
- Support the Project Coordinator to monitor the progress of the participants within every phase of the plan and evaluate the progress of every step of the program
- Provide referrals to other programs/services as needed
- Participate on internal committees and working groups as required
- Maintain a database for the purpose of detailed activity/outcome tracking and reporting
- Demonstrate a commitment to OCISO’s culture of respect management approach and anti
- racism/anti oppression policy within the work environment and in the community
- Develop and lead virtual professional development workshops with youth
- Knowledge of office procedures, Microsoft Office Suite and Electronic Communications is imperative
- Must be capable of setting priorities and working under pressure
- Ensure high standards of service delivery within an anti-racism and anti-oppression policy framework
- Demonstrate a commitment to OCISO’s culture of respect management approach and anti
- racism/anti oppression policy within the work environment and in the community

**Qualifications**:

- University degree or college diploma in Human Resources/Social Services, Education,

Human Resources, Career Coaching or equivalent
- Demonstrated experience working with youth in community programs; career coaching/counselling, volunteer coordination
- 3+ years of experience in one or more of the following areas; employment supports, career coaching/counselling and/or human resources,
- Knowledge of the labor market trends and challenges faced by newcomer youth in Canada, working knowledge of positive youth development programming and principles
- Excellent organizational, coordination and presentation skills
