Lab Research Assistant
We are seeking a Lab Research Assistant to participate in the short
- and long-term deliverables of the Double Haploid and Seed Quality Analysis Laboratories through the use of cutting-edge research equipment, methodology and materials to support the decision-making process of the Canola Breeding Pipeline, while in compliance with quality and safety standards.
This is a permanent position based out of Winnipeg, Manitoba Smart Park lab location.
**What you will do**:
Assist in preparation of media, tissue sampling and ploidy analysis.
Receive, sort, clean and scan seed samples
Prepare and analyze samples using Near Infrared Spectroscopy (NIR), Gas Chromatography (GC) and flow cytometry
Maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment
Maintenance and organization of seed inventory and other research records
Actively participate in process improvement initiatives
Follow all Quality Management System (QMS) and Health Safety and Environment (HSE) procedures and promote implementation within the QA and DH programs
Maintain tidiness & orderliness within the workplace
Participate in task-related document creation and process review for job-related activities
Assist in other projects & performs other duties as required
**Who you are**:
Degree in the chemical sciences
1/+ years' work experience with NIR and GC analysis
Strong computer software literacy using Microsoft Office suite
Highly motivated, results oriented, with the ability to work with people individually or in a team to gain commitment to achieve those results
Possess strong ability to work accurately and pay attention to detail
Strong organization skills and ability to prioritize daily tasks
Flexible attitude and ability to learn new procedures
Ability to communicate complex ideas in a clear, concise, and actionable manner
Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills
