**About Us**:
The Department of Western Technology Services (WTS) is a central source committed to providing highquality, cost-effective technology solutions and services to the campus community in support of the teaching and research missions of the University. WTS works collaboratively with other IT groups within Western’s faculties and support units to leverage central supported technology solutions and services where appropriate.

The ITRC performs the following roles:

- Assists in the use of instructional technology
- Helps in the preparation of online content
- Provides information on various instructional technology tools
- Facilitates the deployment of instructional materials
- Maintains the systems and software that support instruction

The ITRC operates within the Client Services area of WTS and works co-operatively with the Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL), Continuing Studies, Distance Studies and Western Libraries to address the need for support for instructional technology.

The ITRC is a facility equipped with current hardware and software to be used for the design of technology enhanced instructional materials. The ITRC encourages faculty members to make use of the services offered to design their own instructional components. There are also many organizations and journals that provide information online related to instructional technology.

The ITRC employs student consultants who work directly with faculty on specific projects to create online or multimedia instructional material. Proposals are submitted to the ITRC and reviewed based on a specific set of criteria. Projects meeting these criteria are assigned an ITRC student consultant who will provide the technical expertise required for the creation of the online learning materials.

**Responsibilities**:
The eLearning Technology Team in WTS is seeking enthusiastic and tech-savvy Student Migration Helpers to assist with the migration of course materials and content from the old OWL (Sakai) to the new OWL (Brightspace) as part of our OWL Migration Project. As a Student Migration Helper, you will play a crucial role in ensuring a smooth transition and providing support to both faculty and course support staff during this role.

Please note the hours:
May 1, 2024- Aug 30,2024 : 35hours/week

Sept 1, 2024- April 30, 2025: 20hours/week (Approx)

**Responsibilities**:
1. Assist Faculty and Course Staff in Content Migration: Aid in migrating course materials, assignments, quizzes, and other educational content from old OWL (Sakai) to new OWL (Brightspace) following specified guidelines and procedures.

2. Quality Assurance of Migrated Content: Perform quality checks on migrated course content to ensure accuracy, formatting consistency, and functionality within the Western Brightspace platform.

3. Troubleshooting Support: Provide technical support and troubleshooting assistance to faculty and course staff encountering issues related to the migration process or navigating Brightspace.

4. Documentation: Document migration processes, best practices, and frequently asked questions to create resources for faculty and course staff, aiding in their transition to Brightspace.

5. Communication: Maintain clear and effective communication with project managers, faculty members, and course support staff to provide updates on migration progress, address concerns, and gather feedback.

6. Collaboration: Collaborate with other team members, including the ELT and WTS Help Desk and Centre for Teaching and Learning, to ensure a coordinated effort in the migration process and resolve any technical or logístical challenges that may arise.

Skills and Qualifications

1. Familiarity with OWL Sakai: Proficiency in navigating OWL Sakai, with a strong understanding of its features and functionalities.

2. Technical Aptitude: Comfortable with technology and willing to learn new tools and software.

3. Attention to Detail: Meticulous attention to detail to ensure accurate migration of content and thorough quality checks.

4. Troubleshoot: Ability to troubleshoot technical issues and report and/or provide solutions promptly and effectively.

5. Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate technical information clearly and concisely to non-technical users.

6. Collaboration: Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
