**Job Summary**

Reporting to, and working under the supervision of the DuPont Chair in Engineering Education Research and Development (“Principal Investigator”) in the Stephen J.R. Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science the Research Associate is responsible for managing ongoing research and development projects in engineering education research and scholarship. The incumbent works collaboratively with the Principal Investigator and other faculty on assessment and evaluation and curriculum redesign initiatives. At times, the Research Associate may be responsible for assisting with budgeting and account administration.

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Design, develop, test, and implement protocols to evaluate the impact of educational transformations under the general guidance of the Principal Investigator and other co-investigators.
- Work collaboratively with other universities and colleges on national and provincial projects involving evaluation of educational transformation initiatives, continuous program improvement processes, curriculum redesign, and transfer.
- Write preliminary draft proposals and/or contract reports for review and approval.
- Contribute to, co-author, or author research papers.
- Prepare visual and verbal presentations and participate in research meetings.
- Analyse qualitative and quantitative data and interpret results.
- Manage and coordinate all administrative matters related to research projects. This may include, but is not limited to, initiating and preparing correspondence, scheduling and making arrangements for interviews and focus groups.
- Liaise with other researchers at partnering institutions, delegating duties to junior researchers when needed and ensuring tasks have been completed satisfactorily.
- Create content for, manage, and update websites for national initiatives as needed.
- Assist with budgeting and account administration as required.
- Undertake other duties as delegated in support of the research projects.

**REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Graduate degree in engineering education or education, preferably with a specialization in post-secondary assessment or curriculum design.
- Undergraduate degree in science, engineering, or associated area.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in conducting educational or social science research, ideally with some elements of educational assessment and evaluation.
- Previous leadership or project management experience considered to be an asset.
- Consideration will be given to an equivalent combination of education and experience.

**SPECIAL SKILLS**:

- Advanced skills in quantitative and qualitative research methods.
- Advanced knowledge of assessment tools and the capacity to adapt and develop tools.
- Proficiency in education research methods, particularly assessment and program evaluation.
- Ability to support course development and programmatic curriculum development.
- Familiarity with evidence-based teaching practices.
- Ability to create protocol for and facilitate interviews and focus groups in a research project.
- Able to use own judgement and personal initiative to adapt procedures as required to meet the needs of the project and to perform research on a fairly independent basis.
- Organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills. Able to assess and choose best protocol, adapting procedures to meet changing needs.
- Demonstrated commitment to fostering a working and learning environment that fosters equity, diversity and inclusion.
- Technical/scientific writing skills and strong communication (verbal and written) abilities to facilitate information sharing between lab and outside organizations.
- Strong computer skills to aid in the research, analysis and presentation of data.
- Mathematical and statistical analysis skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with faculty.
- Ability to collate and analyse data and generate a coherent, concise report.
- Ability to adapt quickly to changing circumstances and make accommodations on an independent basis, while keeping within the guidelines and goals of the Principal Investigator.

**DECISION MAKING**:

- Makes decisions regarding experimental approach in consultation with others and determines when to adapt protocols and procedures.
- Guides instructors and discipline-based curriculum developers in program.
