We are seeking a **Vice President, Group Underwriting** to join our team in Toronto, Winnipeg, or Montreal.

Reporting to the SVP of Group Product, the VP, Underwriting will be the senior underwriter team leader and will be responsible for all aspects of underwriting operations for our “single employer” GB business. Working with our distribution team members and our insurance partners in a collaborative and productive manner is at the core of our company’s underwriting. Our underwriters specialize in all lines of group insurance to offer a full range of pooled employee benefit programs for the majority of our clients, and they work with other underwriting arrangements for our larger “enterprise” clients. We are continuously improving our underwriting technology. We believe that technology must support the overall underwriting process and support human activity rather than replacing it. Our focus is on engaging with our insurance partners to offer products for a wide breadth of client needs in a profitable manner. You will be a trusted advisor at People Corporation and will work with Marketing, Product, Distribution, and Operations to inform and support insurance and product direction. You will lead, mentor, and support a national team of underwriters and support analysts, and help evolve the underwriting capabilities to meet our clients’ changing needs.

**The Vice President, Group Underwriting will**:

- Mentor and lead the central underwriters and support analysts across the country.
- Develop relationships with all key areas within the organization, including Marketing, Product, Distribution, Finance, Operations, Claims, and HR.
- Ensure that the underwriting team is functioning in an efficient and effective manner, supporting all deliverables for our distribution partners including new business quote requests, renewals, and amendments.
- Provide guidance to the underwriting team on challenging and/or large quotes and renewals.
- Continuously assess that the business being written and renewed is competitive and profitable.
- Help manage account service and exception requests, pricing negotiations, and general questions regarding organizational capabilities.
- Work with your team members and the company’s leaders to identify opportunities and solutions for product and process improvement and standardization.
- Lead responses for significant RFP opportunities and participate in finalist presentations as required.
- Work across all departments to solve client issues, challenges, and escalation.
- Manage relationships with insurance partners.
- Manage the budget for the team on an annual basis, working with management and Finance to prepare for needs of the business during the fiscal budgeting exercise.

**To be successful as the Vice President, Group Underwriting **with** People Corporation, you will need**:

- To demonstrate understanding of the complexities of group benefits, the products available from our insurance partners, and the unique products created and distributed by People Corporation.
- The ability to work with multiple different partners in a composed and professional manner, within tight timelines, while satisfying the needs of all parties in the process.
- To be confident and poised to be accountable for defining, managing, engaging, and running a complex and national underwriting team of approximately 40 associates.
- To Grow the value of underwriting through thought leadership and relationship building across all levels of the firm.
- To be results focused, pro-active, and service-oriented.
- A strong sense of independence, ownership, and initiative.
- Strong people leaderships skills and enjoy managing and mentoring employees throughout all stages of their careers.
- To make effective case pricing and underwriting decisions while adhering to processes, guidelines, and authority limits as detailed by our insurance partners
- To establish and maintain strong relationships with insurance partners and other non-insurance vendors.
- Excellent written and verbal communication.
- Demonstrated success as a team player and contributor.
- Completed post-secondary education in a technology, business, or finance related field. A bachelor's degree or similar is required, and a Master's degree preferable.
- Expert knowledge of group benefits.
- At least 10 years of combined experience as a Group Benefits Underwriter with a major Canadian insurer
