**Job Summary**:
The Manager Philanthropy manages the effective delivery of fund development programs and processes through the implementation of VON’s Philanthropic Revenue Generation Plan (PRGP).

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Leads a centralized gift processing center, supervises data entry staff, and supports, train and guide full use of data management system (The Raiser’s Edge).
- Provides a platform for sharing of best practices among the local teams and creates and supports the use of common tools and tactics to that strengthen VON’s brand position and its appeal to donors.
- Supports the development of annual budgets and regular reporting on metrics, as well as perform evaluations and assessments of initiatives (programs) to enhance fundraising results.
- Oversees gift processing, donor receipting, revenue settlement, records management, reporting and team support.
- Develops and maintains online fundraising tools.
- Maintains/updates policies including solicitation protocols and schedules prospect management, financial reporting and donor recognition.
- Contributes to the development of a measurement framework to support regular reporting
- Manages the Direct Response program, establishing the annual critical path, engaging internal extended team and external vendors including writers, designers, mail house, printers and Canada Post to ensure timely and accurate delivery of three annual appeals
- Manages introduction of e-Giving plans tools.
- Manages bequests (estate files and probate of wills); liaising with estate lawyers and executors, site teams, in-house legal counsel, and finance team.
- Manages development, implementation and maintenance of bequest-handling process.
- Supports extended fund development team in the successful management of fundraising programs.
- Supports development and implementation of education and communication materials and activities.

- Promotes the strategy of VON and their role as an integrated community care provider to all stakeholders and staff.
- Prioritizes and ensures alignment of emerging opportunities in the community with VON strategic plan.
- Provides leadership in navigating the requirements and complexities of unionized and non-unionized environments
- Coaches, advises, motivates, and provides leadership to staff; creates a positive workplace for staff
- Promotes the Lean approach to ensure a common paradigm of management and discipline of management practices
- Ensures there are mechanisms for all staff to come together to hear of organizational news and to provide feedback on what is working and what is not working
- Ensures all teams have a plan to complete performance development and learning plans with all staff
- Promotes common approaches to orientation, learning, motivating, recognizing and supporting staff when achieving organizational goals such as meeting or exceeding KPIs, meeting or exceeding milestones
- Provides leadership and commitment to building client and family engagement following Accreditation Canada Standards
- Provides leadership in the promotion of a safe and healthy workplace ensuring workplace conduct and activities are in accordance with the provincial Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations, that KPIs related to safety are regularly reviewed by management, that appropriate investigations occur when needed, and plans to address issues are created and acted upon
- Promotes the use of technology-based systems for the capture, transformation and distribution of knowledge
- Abides by all confidentiality and protection of personal information policies, regulations and practices and ensures appropriate safeguards are in place

**External and Internal Relationships**:

- Forges affiliations with VON staff across sites and corporate services departments by providing consultation, coaching and support on fund development.
- Works with external partners including Community Corporation boards on regional or national projects.

**Education, Designations and Experience**:

- Post-secondary degree in Fund Development, Communications or related field
- Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) designation an asset
- Minimum five (5) years fundraising management experience is essential
- Experience managing staff while demonstrating enthusiastic leadership abilities
- Extensive experience with Blackbaud products is required.
- Experience in planning and executing fund development and marketing programs/campaigns in collaboration with staff and volunteers, including through social media channels.
- Experience working in an organization with both a national and a local [community] dynamic.
- Experience working in the health care and/or community support services
