Ontario Shores Centre for Mental Health Sciences is seeking an Administrative Assistant for the Forensic Program. This program provides inpatient and outpatient services for adults who have an identified mental illness and who have come in to contact with the law.- Provide administrative support
- Be responsible for scheduling all ORB hearings and related legal events
- Assist with communication and liaison necessary for the effective movement of forensic patients between mental health facilities,detention centres and Ontario Shores’ clinical units
- Assist with the preparation and distribution of Ontario Review Board reports and assist with the admission of forensic patient into the assessment beds from the court system
- Develop and maintain a forensic database; and prepare statistical reports related to forensic services.
- The role also involves scheduling Ontario Telemedicine Network events that relate to forensic assessments

In this role, the Administrative Assistant must be able to work collaboratively, and provide exemplary communication skills, which are required in daily interactions with staff from the courts, Crown Attorney’s office, Ontario Review Board, other mental health facilities, detention centres, and Ontario Shore’s staff.

- Qualifications Required and Preferred- Graduate of a Community College Medical Office Administration Diploma program or health administrative assistant certification program or other equivalent preferred
- Experience in an Administrative Assistant role, preferably in a health care setting
- Sound knowledge of Medical Terminology
- Knowledge of the Ontario Review Board, the Criminal Code of Canada, the Mental Health Act of Ontario, forensic services throughout the Province of Ontario, court and Ontario Review Board Dispositions, Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care and Ontario Review Board directives pertinent to forensic patients
- Knowledge of relevant legislation such as the PHIPA, Public Hospitals Act, Health Care Consent Act
- Knowledge of hospital procedures and relevant administrative policies
- Advanced computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Access
- Excellent judgment skills and initiative to elicit and review information, identify problems, and evaluate information are part of the decision-making process
- Excellent administrative skills to collect and interpret data
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to enable you to effectively interact with administrators, professional, physicians and other staff of Ontario Shores and external contacts
- Excellent keyboarding skills (50-60 Wpm)
- Ability to perform the physical demands of the position and maintain regular attendance.
