**Position**

**EDPS 410: Ethics and Law in Teaching**

This course will examine the ethical and legal responsibilities of teachers. Among the topics addressed will be the following: punishment and child abuse; freedom of speech and academic freedom in schools; parents' rights and teachers' professional autonomy; issues of quality such as inclusive education and the problems of racism and sexism; fairness in assessment and evaluation; teachers' private lives and public obligations; indoctrination and the teaching of value.

Course sections are scheduled during daytime and/or evening hours and may be offered in
- person, online (synchronous or asynchronous), or hybrid (a combination of online and face-to-face).

**Minimum Qualifications**
- The successful applicant will hold a Master's Degree (minimum, PhD preferred) in Education with experience teaching in k-12 in Alberta (preference will be given to applicants with leadership experience in k-12 in Alberta).
- A strong K-12 classroom teaching background and demonstrated teaching excellence.
- Strong organization and communication skills.
- Familiarity with online teaching platforms such as Moodle, and Google Classroom.
- A commitment to the University’s Indigenous initiatives, and principles of equity, diversity, and inclusivity.

**Preferred Qualifications**
- School leadership experience.
- Experience teaching undergraduate education courses, which can include serving as a teaching assistant.
