**Job Summary**

Under the direction of the Settlement Manager, the **Settlement Counsellor - Kurdish** will support clients throughout City of Ottawa in meeting their immediate settlement needs by providing information, orientation, and referrals to community resources.

**This position reports to**: Settlement Manager
**Employment status**:Full-time, indeterminate
**Hourly rate**:$26.76
**Deadline date to apply: March 15, 2023**

**Location**: 219 Argyle Avenue

**Responsibilities**
- Provide information, orientation, and referrals to clients through one-on-one and group sessions.
- Coordinate the provision of services through case management, needs assessment, Settlement action plans, and advocacy.
- Connect clients with specific settlement needs to existing resources in the community.
- Interpret and translate for clients to access services and meet immediate settlement needs.
- Prepare clients to actively access networks and navigate Canadian systems.
- Provide reports and document services as requested by the Settlement Manager.
- Develop and facilitate workshops and group sessions.
- Outreach to clients and service providers.
- Participate in meetings and activities that promote understanding of newcomers.
- Maintain accurate service records and program documentation.
- Other duties assigned by manager

**Qualifications**
- Post-secondary education in a Social Services field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Knowledge of services and resources available to assist newcomers to Canada.
- At least two years of experience in a social service setting. Familiarity with settlement processes is a strong asset.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills and a high degree of cross-cultural competence.
- Experience assessing client needs to provide appropriate service and referrals.
- Knowledge of services and resources available to assist newcomers to Canada.
- Experience facilitating groups and workshops.
- Skilled at de-escalation, negotiation, and conflict resolution.
- Ability to perform duties independently and with mínimal supervision.
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to set priorities and meet deadlines.
- Ability to function in a multidisciplinary, culturally diverse workplace.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Fluency in **Kurdish ( Kurmanji, Sorani) is required**. Fluency in other languages is a strong asset.
