Position Title: Collections Coordinator

Organization: Museums of Burlington

Hours/days of work: 35 hours per week; Monday to Friday; weekend and evening work occasionally required

Term: Full-Time (12 month contract)

**Salary**: $22.50 - $25.50 per hour

Position reports to: Museum Director

**ORGANIZATION**:
The Museums of Burlington is comprised of two community museums, the Joseph Brant Museum and Ireland House Museum.
- Ireland House Museum_

Built in 1837, Ireland House was the home of Joseph Ireland, one of Burlington's earliest settlers. Ireland House Museum is a local treasure that consists of 4 acres of woodland, the original family home, gardens, cottage/drive shed, and picnic areas.
- Joseph Brant Museum_

Joseph Brant Museum is Burlington’s community museum. With the replica of the homestead of Joseph Brant 'Thayendanegea' (1742-1807) serving as a beacon, the facility features three permanent galleries, space for travelling exhibitions and a dedicated programming area for school groups and education programs.

**Position Summary**:
The Collections Coordinator provides organization and preventative conservation of artifacts for the Museums of Burlington. This position works closely with the Curatorial Assistant in the following areas: collections management and care, preservation and conservation, exhibitions, and curatorial programming. The Collections Coordinator may be asked to assist with tours, programs and reception if needed.

**Collections Management**:

- Ensure that standards of collection care are maintained and that activities adhere to Collections Policy
- Provide technical expertise in handling, mounting, and storing of artifacts
- Assist in collections related activities including selecting and acquiring new acquisitions, documentation completion of acquisitions (including physical and database records), inventories, condition reports, artifact care and use

**Preservation and Conservation**:

- Manage the conservation and preventative conservation programs including the areas of exhibition, storage and security

**Exhibitions**:

- Assist in the research, design, preparation, installation, and deinstallation of exhibits
- Coordinate with technicians for installation and deinstallation of travelling exhibits

**Research**:

- Assist in research to develop new knowledge and insight into the past and present local community; explore community issues and opportunities for issue-based programming
- Assist in research related to the study of collections, exhibits, historic sites or local history; and respond to research requests from other professionals, the public and organizations

**Required Skills and Experience**:

- A degree from an accredited university as well as a graduate degree or certificate in Museum Studies, Cultural Heritage Conservation and Management, or a related field.
- Minimum 2-3 years of experience in museum work that includes collections management and care, exhibits, and working cooperatively with other museum departments
- Experience with museum collection management software, “Past Perfect”
- Experience with collections storage projects is an asset
- Experience in preventive conservation is an asset
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Experience working with volunteers
- High overall level of computer literacy
- Strong attention to detail, high level of accuracy and strong problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently while establishing priorities and meeting deadlines
- Ability to work in a team
