**Position Overview**

This position is focused on building community capacity for the community to help themselves by knowing each other and what is in their neighbourhood to support them. It administers community grant programs and leads community leadership session to encourage resident to resident connection to build local resilience and health.

This position responsibilities include:

- Community engagement and relationship management
- Interdepartmental coordination and service delivery
- Neighbourhood Development (i.e. Neighbourhood Connectors, Connector Leadership)
- Community Initiatives supported through Community Development Fund

**Responsibilities**

Reporting to Supervisor of Sport and Neighbourhood Development, you are responsible for:

- Working directly with community members, community organizations, not for profits and community focused business to promote community-led development and collective action, aimed toward local improvement and engagement.
- Coordinating service delivery of community responsive recreation experiences within assigned portfolio. Support residents in their navigation of the municipal system. Ensuring experiences meet legislated standards, government regulations, and corporation requirements.
- Chairing or attending neighbourhood meetings, service provider/user group meetings to monitor action plans and implement changes to ensure in compliance to agreements, and applicable standards and requirements.
- Providing leadership, support to volunteer boards, committees and neighbourhoods, to assist them with their service delivery. Advocate for community needs and empower residents to find solutions for neighbourhood enhancement and connectivity.
- Promoting and supporting applicants through community grant opportunities.
- Recruiting, training, motivating, recognizing, supervising, and evaluating staff, volunteers and placement students
- Gathering data to populate budget and performance measures to meet business and customer needs, including participation and utilization rates, financial targets, customer satisfaction
- Representing the unit on department and/or corporate teams. Consult and liaise with other departments on strategies and practices.
- Assuming the duties of the supervisor or other coordinators in the unit during absences or as directed
- Identifying new programs, service providers, contract development and related administrative tasks and develop continuous improvement opportunities to enhance program delivery and customer experience.
- Ensuring risk management is a priority including ensuring program staff awareness of industry best practices, adherence to any legislative requirements, and acting as liaison with facility staff to ensure participant safety
- Providing excellent customer service to the public. Responding to public and staff inquiries. Escalating complex issues to supervisor.

**Requirements**:
The successful applicant will hold a Post-Secondary Diploma or Degree in Recreation and Leisure, Community Development or a related field of study with at least two (2) years experience. Demonstrated organizational and planning skills couple with good knowledge of current industry trends. Strong facilitation, diplomacy, tact, communication and creative thinking skills are essential. Past experience supervising staff or volunteers and experience with contract management would be an asset.

Experience with IAP2, Asset Based Community Development, Standard First Aid and High Five certification is considered an asset. You must provide your own transportation to conduct business at a variety of locations. Opportunity to work remotely for some of the work week. A flexible work schedule to include evening, weekend and holiday work will also be required.

A valid G Class driver’s license is required with an acceptable driver’s abstract (no more than three (3) driving related convictions or an accumulation of no more than three (3) demerit points in the previous three (3) years prior to the date of hire).
