- Lead a diverse team of Municipal Enforcement Officers with accountability, courage and inclusiveness to meet the vision and mandate of the Community Standards & Neighbourhoods Branch
- Organize and oversee daily work assignments and review enforcement activities to ensure mandated legislation is being appropriately enforced and resources are being appropriately allocated to meet operational goals
- Investigate highly complex or politically sensitive enforcement matters and customer complaints
- Provide assistance to Municipal Enforcement Officers/Weed Inspectors with the interpretation of applicable legislation
- Assist in the development and updating of policy, procedures and manuals related to all Municipal Enforcement programs
- Prepare and submit requests and recommendations to the Operations Coordinator for improved program efficiencies and productivity
- Prepare reports on specific incidents and events; review court briefs submitted by officers and ensure evidence is present for court challenges
- Provide information and interpretation of legislation to the public and media through presentations, interviews, and/or in writing
- Administer and monitor performance management mechanisms to ensure staff members are meeting operational objectives and performance standards; coaching and counseling staff, executing performance appraisals, implementing corrective measures
- Hire, train and orient new staff
- Perform other related duties as required

**Qualifications**:

- Completed 2 year diploma in Law Enforcement, Police Studies, Criminology, Sociology or related discipline from a provincially recognized institute or college.
- Additional coursework/training in enforcement & security, public administration, change management or leadership is considered an asset
- Minimum 1 year experience in a related supervisory capacity
- Minimum 3 years of diverse bylaw enforcement experience
- Minimum 5 years public contact experience
- Ability to effectively and efficiently plan, assign, supervise and evaluate the work of others, and monitor performance for timeliness, quality, productivity, and safety standards.
- Strong leadership skills including the ability to promote and maintain a positive, team oriented environment and the ability to build and maintain a positive team morale
- Considerable knowledge of relevant municipal bylaws, provincial acts, procedures, investigative techniques, rules of evidence, and court processes
- Excellent communication and problem solving skills; including the ability to resolve conflict with citizens in difficult situations while ensuring fair and consistent enforcement of bylaws
- Ability to meet deadlines, work effectively under public pressure, negotiate and resolve conflicts
- Ability to collaborate and build trust, obtain input, understanding, and participation from staff
- Willingness to take calculated risks in order to create and implement positive change
- Strong writing skills with the ability to draft reports and correspondence clearly presenting information and recommendations
- Computer proficiency including but not limited to Posse Winchester, Posse App and Google Suite
- Eligible to obtain and maintain Commissioner of Oaths status
- Valid Alberta Class 5 driver’s licence (or provincial equivalent). Must obtain business auto insurance for personal vehicle use on City business
- Valid Standard FIrst Aid - CPR - Level C is required
- Hire is dependent upon a Police Information Check including Vulnerable Sector check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton
- Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's license (or provincial equivalent). Must arrange own transportation to be reimbursed in accordance with City of Edmonton policy which may require business auto insurance
