**Summary**:
The Operations Leader for Volunteer Services will provide stability to the organization’s volunteer services by ensuring that operations are both efficient and effective. This involves providing guidance, direction and administration in the delivery of the organization’s Volunteers Services Program recognizing that volunteers (adults, students and coop) are essential members of the health-care team and play a role in helping to create a positive environment for volunteers of the site.

**Responsibility**:

- Coordinates the day-to-day operation of Volunteer Services;
- Advances continuously the operational efficiency of the Volunteer Department through process redesign, quality management techniques and the introduction of new initiatives for enhancing the services provided by the Department and Volunteers;
- Designs and implements various aspects of the volunteer recognition program, including a volunteer communications strategy;
- Facilitates and/or participates in the development of Volunteer Services initiatives, e.g., participating in policy development, developing and facilitating orientation programs for new Volunteers, selecting and configuring new computer database system to meet the needs of the Volunteer office and Hospital requirements;
- Provides oversight and direction for Volunteer activities, including:

- Ensuring the optimal recruitment/selection of the most suitable Volunteer for the appropriate placements.
- Provides day to day direction and supervision for staff, facilitating the appropriate handling of issues concerning individual Volunteers, in a timely manner;
- Ensures all volunteers are prepared to perform their duties to the highest standards by:

- Developing strategies for providing orientation, education sessions, policies/procedures, advising of all new legislative/regulatory, etc.;
- Developing learning programs and ensuring volunteers are compliant with safe practices aligned with patient safety, infection control standards;
- Developing a team oriented learning environment and encouraging alternative approaches to learning and teaching
- Creates and puts into practice quality assurance/improvement and safety practices/initiatives to measure and ensure the utmost protection of the Hospital’s valuable resources, e.g., Volunteers, patients and staff;
- Facilitating the resolution of Volunteer issues/concerns, as required, including resolving issues concerning individual Volunteer/Staff relations, in an effort to improve working relationships through trust and respect; meeting with Volunteer/Staff, as required to understand and resolve underlying concerns;
- Prioritizing requests for Volunteer services in an environment where there are fewer Volunteer resources than requests for assistance;
- Developing new and innovative recruitment methods to increase the pool of Volunteers;

**Qualifications**:

- Completion of Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, or other related discipline required.
- Completion of Volunteer Management Diploma preferred.
- Four (4) year’s of related experience working in a Supervisory and/or management role required; including (3) year’s of experience providing volunteer resources services required;
- Experience working in a Health Care environment preferred;
- Some knowledge and understanding of budgeting procedures preferred;
- Familiarity with a Not-for-Profit environment preferred;
- Excellent organizational and time management skills required;
- Excellent administrative and human resources skills required;
- Ability to work effectively in a fast pace, high pressure environment required;
- Ability to work in a self-directed manner and be flexible as situations dictates required;
- Ability to effectively provide guidance to Volunteers required;
- Ability to be creative and proactive required;
- Computer literacy required.
