**About Us**:
The Correctional Services Division of the Department of Justice is responsible for the administration and operation of community and custody-based programs and services for individuals in custody and young persons. Within the Correctional Services core business area there are two programs: community corrections and correctional facilities. Each of these program areas is broken down into closely related activities that have a specific impact on the program's target group.

**About Our Opportunity**:
As the Sentence Administrator, you will report to an Assistant Deputy Superintendent and are responsible for documentation of all admissions, releases, court appearances, transfers to other provincial and federal facilities and fines within the Correctional Facility. The Sentence Administrator also inputs and keeps information relating to individuals in custody in the Justice Enterprise Information Network (JEIN). This includes loss of remission, levels of misconduct, temporary absences, custody terms and interpreting warrants and other court orders. The incumbent calculates sentences for each individual in custody, using practices outlined in policy and procedures and following orders as outlined in various court documents. The Sentence Administrator maintains regular communication with video court staff, Court Services, Admission & Discharge staff, justice Centre and Sheriff Services staff and facility management to ensure all parties are aware of potentially high-risk situations; performs information searches and prepares reports as necessary.

**Working Conditions**:

- Primarily office related work.
- Mental strain from high volume of work; the need for accuracy, and meeting deadlines.
- Relief employees fill gaps in the schedule and replace full time employees when operational requirements demand as determined by the Employer - while there is no shift work associated with this position, overtime and disruptions to personal and family life due to position responsibilities, workload, and other unplanned activities (typically the hours are between 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, this may vary depending on operational needs). Work over weekends and holidays will be required depending on operational demands.

**Additional Information**:
**This is Casual Relief opportunity based at the Nova Scotia Correctional Facility in New Glasgow. **A relief employee is an employee who is not regularly scheduled by the Employer, but who works relief assignments on an as-needed basis as operational requirements demand. As such, a relief employee does not have guaranteed hours of work.**

The facility is a 24-hour operation and is a tobacco-free environment.

Employment is contingent on successful completion of appropriate background checks, which include a vulnerable sector check with fingerprints and employment references.
