The Department comprises 18 professors who specialize in microbiology, biochemistry, biophotonics, synthetic biology, systems biology, and bioinformatics. Over 300 undergraduate and 80 graduate students are enrolled in our training programs.

**Position description**
- Develop a research program in the field of microbial functional genomics. Specifically, the research program would aim to analyze the function, regulation, and interaction of genes that account for the properties of microorganisms (prokaryotic and/or eukaryotic) in different environments. The methodology used would be functional genomics in combination with experimental and bioinformatics approaches.
- Secure funding from major granting agencies.
- Recruit and mentor graduate students.
- Participate in the teaching of undergraduate and graduate courses offered in French by the Department of Biochemistry, Microbiology and Bioinformatics.
- And more generally, participate in the development and activities of the Department of Biochemistry, Microbiology and Bioinformatics, the Faculty of Science and Engineering and Université Laval.

**Qualifications**

**In addition, she or he must**:

- Hold a PhD in a discipline relevant to the research area covered by this position.
- Have a postdoctoral experience or its equivalent.
- Demonstrate a strong potential to develop and lead an autonomous, original, and high-level research program in the field identified.
- Demonstrate an interest in recruiting and supervising graduate students.
- Demonstrate an aptitude or potential for teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, for mentoring of graduate students, and a commitment to pedagogical innovation.
- Demonstrate potential for or commitment to community service.
- Master French, both orally and in writing (or commit to acquiring it within the deadlines set out in the collective agreement).
- Demonstrate a match between her/his professional potential and the key competencies required to perform the professorial function.

**Employment Conditions and Salary**:

- This is a regular, full-time, tenure-track position.
- The rank will be determined based on experience.
- There will be a teaching release during the first year.
- The annual salary (12 months) for this position, as per the Université Laval collective agreement, ranges from $96,407 to $170,914 depending on rank and step.
