**About Our Opportunity**:
This position provides support for data collection and entry for both the Forest Inventory PSP and Registry of Buyers programs. You will aid with the collection of forest metrics from the Inventory PSPs for the integrated continuous forest inventory field province. The program determines the status, location, and condition of the timber and non-timber resources with additional descriptions based upon the biophysical and ecological conditions of forest lands.

This position also supports the Registry of Buyers Program with both field collection of silviculture treatment data and data entry within the regulatory framework of Registration and Statistical Returns and Forest Sustainability Regulations.

You will also:

- Collection of forest metrics such as live and dead tree diameters, heights, assess land capability, plot ages, identify woody vegetation species, coarse woody material, tree products, and forest ecosites on a Field Data collecting computer.
- Precise measurement of the forest metrics includes the uses of field equipment including electronic and manual hypsometers, D-Tape, Increment Bore, Prism, angle gauge, 360-degree camera and survey grade GPS.
- Work closely in a team with other permanent and seasonal employees to ensure forest inventory sampling methods and specifications along with quality control and quality assurance programs are fully understood, correctly interpreted, and applied to the approximately 650 permanent sample plot that are measured annually.
- Assist in the collection and entry of the Registry of Buyers data from the registered buyers throughout the province as per the Registration and Statistical Returns Regulations.
- Assists in the field collection and data entry of silviculture treatment monitoring within the regulatory framework of the Forest Sustainability Program.

**The position reports to the Registry of Buyers and Forest Inventory Program Administration Officer.**

**About You**:
The incumbent must have graduated from a recognized forestry or related technician diploma program.

Other requirements for the position include:

- A general knowledge of the Nova Scotia Forest Inventory PSP Program

A general understanding of the Registry of Buyers and Wood Acquisition Programs

Other Assets would include:

- Current, documented training in First Aid, WHIMIS, ATV operation, Pleasure Operator Card, Canoe use, Radio use, Respect in the workplace, Violence in the workplace, Bear Awareness, Defensive Driving
- Knowledge of Surveying and an understanding of aerial photography interpretation.

We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools: written examination, skill testing, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.
- Nova Scotia FEC certified; and must be able to demonstrate these abilities.
- Ability to identify forest tree and woody vegetation species throughout the year, assessment of ground cover and knowledge of the soil types of Nova Scotia.
- Able to demonstrate the accurate use of a diameter tape, hypsometer, Garmin GPS, and proper radio communication.
- Able to carry 45+-pound backpacks/equipment for long periods of time over rugged terrain and all-weather conditions.
- Demonstrate good leadership skills and a positive attitude are required, must have a diplomatic approach for working with the general public, registered buyers, landowners and colleagues.
- Be proficient in excel, word, outlook, ArcGIS etc.
- Field navigation skills and be able to demonstrate these abilities with both a GPS and map & compass.
- A valid NS driver's license (minimum Class 5) and access to a motor vehicle are essential.
