Ophthalmic Technician

The Ophthalmic Technician is responsible for assisting the Ophthalmologist in the clinical setting. This involves the initial patient assessment, as well as performing a number of technical tests/procedures. This all must be done with a high degree of efficiency and accuracy, often in a very fast paced environment. We will provide training on the job to teach the necessary skills. These include measuring patients' vision, taking history, checking their pupils, testing colour vision, measuring the power of glasses they wear, determining what strength glasses they need, measuring eye pressure, putting in eye drops. In addition, the incumbent is responsible for doing specialized testing such as laser scans of the optic disc, photographs, measuring contrast sensitivity, measuring the cornea (front surface contour, thickness, and back surface cell counts), measuring their peripheral visual fields and doing pre-op cataract measurements to determine the power of lens they will need implanted in their eye.
About You
The following experience is preferred but not required:
- Grade XII or equivalent
- University degree
- Prior experience in an ophthalmologic or healthcare setting
- Proficiency with electronic medical record systems
- Strong patient care skills and the ability to provide exceptional customer service
- Successful completion of an accredited Ophthalmic Technician Training Program
- Certification with the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology, Ophthalmic Technician level is required or willingness to be certified within (6) months of hire date
- Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Pay: $23.00-$25.00 per hour
Expected hours: 20 - 30 per week
