Permanent Part Time (FTE: 0.97)

Hours: Mon-Fri 9:30-am - 5:00pm

Wage: $30.96

**SCOPE**:
Under the general supervision of a Registered Nurse, a Physiotherapist or Occupational Therapist, this level assists designated patients with assigned rehabilitative activities.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Completion of a Rehabilitation Assistant Program plus one year’s recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to deal and work with others effectively.
- Physical and mental ability to carry out the duties of the position.
- Ability to organize work.
- Ability to operate related equipment.
- Ability to work with dementia residents.
- Walking, reaching, bending, lifting, grasping, fine hand coordination, pushing and pulling, ability to distinguish smells and temperatures.

**RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Assists assigned resident with established rehabilitative activities such as mobility and strengthening exercises, walking and activities of daily living as directed; demonstrates to residents the use of prescribed treatment/adaptive devices such as wheelchairs and walkers and modified eating utensils and personal care items, as direct.
- Assists residents in dressing and toilet needs as required in preparation for and following rehabilitative treatment; assists lifting/transfers and positioning as directed.
- Transports residents to and from rehabilitative programs.
- Reports observations of residents’ behavior and progress to Therapist/Nurse; communicates concerns and/or changes to the resident’s condition.
- Sets up and organizes furnishings and equipment for related activities as directed; cleans and maintains equipment and malfunctioning equipment to appropriate staff.
- Maintains established inventory of equipment devices and materials.
- Assists residents with meals and participates in the special meal program.
- Assists residents with toileting program.
- Attends education and in-services relevant to the organization as provided by the Employer.
- Performs other related duties as assigned

**RESIDENT RIGHTS & CONFIDENTIALITY**
- Educates staff and volunteer residential rights and organization information.
- Maintain confidentiality, treat residents with kindness, dignity and respect. Promptly report all residents’ and families’ complaints to nurse in charge or DOC.
- Champion residents’ rights and promptly takes authority on any abuse or neglect of resident rights.

**SAFETY AND RISK MANAGEMENT**
- Residents and staff safety is everyone’s responsibility.
- Participates in monthly Fire Drills and quarterly Disaster Plan Drills.
- Practices standard procedures and promote infection control policies and procedures.
- Promotes resident safety and provides education to residents/clients/families on safety.
- Ensures therapy is administered in compliance with applicable regulations.
- Ensures cleanness and safety of physical therapy and treatment areas and rooms, equipment's and supplies at all times.
- Recognizing residents at risk and assists in development of care protocols.
- Promptly reports accidents, incidents, unsafe and hazardous conditions and equipment and ensures that established safety rules and regulations are followed at all times.
- Participates in Q.I. teams, monitors indicators.
- Reports hazards and near misses.
