**Senior Pastor Job Description**

**Who We Are**
Redemption Church began in 1989 at Point Grey Community Church (PGCC), which would plant UTown Church at the University of British Columbia in 2006, and More Than 12 Church in the Commercial Drive area of East Vancouver in 2008. More Than 12 Church became independent in 2010 and continues to serve God in the lower mainland. PGCC and UTown came together at the Collingwood location in the summer of 2012, worshipped at the Hollywood Theatre under the name Church at the Hollywood until returning to the Collingwood location in Nov. 2013. The church was renamed “Redemption Church” in Sept. 2014.

Redemption Church is Located on the West Side of Vancouver, in the Kitsilano
Neighbourhood, a community known for its beaches and mountain vistas, is home to nearly 43,000 people. The Vancouver Metro area is home to over 2.6 million people, with ethnic and cultural diversity of Indigenous People, descendants of settlers, and new immigrants, all of whom are represented at Redemption Church.

A regular part of our story has been welcoming people from diverse walks of life for a short period of time or for the foreseeable future. We cherish loving and blessing people for however long God has them in our community.

**Scope of Duties**
**Vision-Casting**
- Seek God’s voice in determining and sharing Redemption Church’s vision together with the elders and board.
- Provide spiritual direction.

**Leadership Development**
- Identify and develop leaders in our community through discipleship, education, and training.
- Encourage and partner with ministry group leaders to identify new leaders.
- Provide support towards balance and rest for volunteer leaders.

**Preaching & Teaching**
- Deliver exegetical preaching displaying strong Biblical knowledge and in-depth personal study of scripture on an almost weekly basis.
- Provide mentorship to other church members who are preaching.

**The Church Family**
- As a key figure of the church family, integrate the various groups of the church into one family unit (eg. Families, seniors, young adults, teenagers etc.).

**Prayer, Prophetic, & Worship**
- Shepherd and steward these ministries and their leaders as they seek God’s presence for Redemption Church.
- Encourage and facilitate new expressions of these ministries to bring the congregation closer to God’s heart.

**Local Community Involvement**
- Facilitate relationships between Redemption Church and our local community to bring the life of Christ to the city.
- Take an active role in learning about and participating in/initiating actions aimed at seeking justice (right relationship) and reconciliation in areas relevant to our neighbourhood, community, city, and lands.

- We develop devoted followers of Jesus through Biblically based teaching, mentoring, and serving together.
- Recognizing that some people join us for a short time, we intentionally prepare and send them to serve God in other locations, both near and far.

**Bless the World**
- We serve the neighbourhood in practical, tangible ways as a demonstration of the heart of God, including loving service, works of healing, justice, and unusual generosity.
- We proclaim the Good News of Christ in actions and words in the community around us and invite them into abundant life with Jesus.

Our Mission is to fulfill the Great Commandment (Mark 12:28-31) and the Great
Commission (Matthew 28:19-20).

Our basic statement of faith can be found in both the Nicene and Apostles' Creeds. The word 'catholic' meaning 'universal' church.

**Qualifications**
Called by God, the Senior Pastor of Redemption Church (often referred to internally as the “Lead Pastor”) will exhibit a vibrant life with Father, Son, and Spirit. The Senior Pastor will be approachable, humble, gentle and peaceable, with good reputation.
The Senior Pastor will be:

- A disciple who loves God above all, as demonstrated by a life of worship, meditation and prayer.
- A leader who has substantial experience with providing spiritual direction, equipping & supporting teams and leaders of all ages and eager to engage, strengthen, and launch ministers and servants.
- A teacher who speaks from Scripture with love, grace, knowledge and authority.
- Completed or is pursuing a Master’s Degree and is a current PAOC credential holder (or willing and eligible to be credentialed by the PAOC).
